Getting more interesting
We knew from other reviews that the wood was going to slip as it dried out.I think it makes the wood more interesting.The splits and cracks are gradually getting wider but being a large piece of wood that I can't imagine it will fall apart.

lovely.... but
I purchased this lamp stand in December and was satisfied that the cracks were all part of the character of the piece of wood, however 2 months on the cracks are now so large and deep it is worrying me that the whole block will split. At the time of writing I could get 2 £1 coins in several cracks measuring 4 inches long.Shame really as it is lovely and a perfect size to stand a lamp on.POST SCRIPT18 months on the cracks are still very wide and long, but only on 3 sides, so the best side is showing. I still like it very much though and it looks lovely with the lamp placed on it

lovely oak posts
These posts are excellent as speaker stands. The wood has a nice oiled finish, with interesting natural cracks. The 800mm ones are very heavy though - don't try to lift upstairs unless you are very strong or have assistance!
