the $400 "trucker gps" doesn't either and at least with this I can properly map a route using a good map and the directions from
I've used DeLorme Street Atlas for over ten years as my only map when routing a tractor-trailer. It won't give you low bridges, low weight ratings nor keep you off of non-truck routes. Newsflash: the $400 "trucker gps" doesn't either and at least with this I can properly map a route using a good map and the directions from my company. I have seen a lot of complaints about this software and without a doubt if you don't like it you haven't taken the time to set up the features and options to you're liking. You can get turn-by-turn directions in 3D nav mode, 2d nav mode, have the map auto center on GPS or not, auto zoom or not auto zoom, search using many different criteria... (If you don't like you're search, check your settings and how /where you searched. This is not mapquest. It won't auto fill your search and find places to sell you shoes without you asking. If that's what you need just use an iPhone. I can say from experience that if you search for an address and you type that address correctly and search "within the zip code" that your destination will be within 3 or 4 feet of the map destination every time. Keep in mind that you can turn on or off almost any attribute. This has been described as not user friendly and I believe that to be incorrect. It's not dumbed down to super auto/dumb mode with no options. You must take some time to set this up before you have a positive experience. After setting up my average speed for interstate, two lane, in and out of city limits etc. I can see when I'm going to be somewhere five hours away within + or - a minute or so. Red lights and those other people on the road are variables. BTW, it took some trials to set up my average speeds. I set my nav mode to 2D and no auto zoom or map centering. GPS shows where I am on a 2d map where north is always up. You can set yours however you want. It simply tells me how far and how long to my next turn and how far/long to "finish" with very clear visuals so I don't have to listen to some British chick mispronounce street names all day.

The sound on those laptops works fine for playing videos
The voice commands do not work. Tried installing on 2 different Windows 8.1 laptops, one of which is brand new. The sound on those laptops works fine for playing videos, dvds, and youtube, but I get no sound at all from Street Atlas 2015. I have called tech support, and they told me they don't support sound issues. I can't be looking at the laptop screen every 15 seconds while driving - I need the sound prompts. I asked about this problem on the Delorm user forum and nobody responded. When I click on "options" "voice" "test voice" nothing happens. The volume is at maximum. There are no error messages.

Get a Garmin!
I purchased this to use on a train trip to follow my location. I had trouble getting it to work on either my PC or Mac (running Bootcamp). After several attempts I finally got it to communicate with the GPS unit. Packed it up and went on my trip. On the trip I pulled the computer out and could not get the street guide to communicate with the GPS. the GPS would display the coordinates, but would not talk to the street guide. After play with the street guide software for hours I gave up for the time being. I pulled the computer back out and tried some other options, and FINALLY got it working. The problem now is the map kept rotating as we traveled. I was trying to get the map to keep North to the top and could not figure out how to accomplish this. Every time I would rotate the map so North is up, it would rotate so that the arrow which showed the direction I was traveling would point straight up, even if I was going South. This was very annoying. So I packed up the computer and put it away for the rest of my two week journey.

DeLorme: Please update your maps.
Updated from my 2011 Street Atlas and found that my own street is still missing after six years on every other GPS and online map. DeLorme; who says there is nothing they can do and do not provide updates. Other new features are good and GPS sensor works well. They will take product back.

I enjoy the product but the User Interface takes a bit to get use to. When everything is running right this is a great item. Several times I have had to restart my computer to get the product to respond and to allow me to input new information. I have tried to restart the program but that did not always work. So with the cons out of the way, The mapping is great, it will auto correct when you so far off course ( you and adjust how far off you have to be). The Zoom feature works great on the map ( Just stop the gps because the refresh rate will interfere with you while looking for fine detail of an area). I would recommend this item, Just take time to learn it before jumping to conclusion on it.

Great GPS/Route Planner
This is the best mapping software I have used including MapQuest, Google Maps etc. I have Garmin, TomTom and Rand McNally GPSs. They are all good, but do not have the flexibility and features that Street Atlas has. Planning a route is unbeatable.Pros:Can display as much or as little area as needed; Voice controlled; Printable maps; Can customize by adding waypoints, vias, tags, symbols, routable roads, measurements, points of interest and much more; Has high contrast colors for night viewing; Keeps a GPS log of where you have been and too many more features to list here.Cons:Does not have live traffic feature or Internet interconnect for information such as fuel prices. Does not have free map updates. Must use laptop or tablet to display which can be cumbersome in a small automobile, but works great in a truck or motor coach.
