Modification necessary
I received the ACK-E5 Replacement AC Power adapter yesterday. Delivery was very quick, but I was unhappy to see the unit is unusable without modification. The camera end of the unit slides into the battery compartment of my Canon 450D XSi camera. The size of the adapter is the same but there is a small plastic piece that extrudes from the bottom preventing the adapter to fully lock into place. In order to use this adapter you must use a cutting tool and remove this plastic stub. Works fine after that!

Works but has lousy AC plug
This power supply works fine with my T1i. I've shot 10 hour time-lapse sequences with it. Unfortunately, it has one very annoying flaw. The AC plug has two perfectly flat blades that are so thin sockets can't get a grip on it. The slightest jerk will pull the plug out of a socket. With one socket I tried it didn't even make contact and there was no power (I checked it with an AC meter). Bending the blades solved the contact problem but it still remains loose. Minus two stars for the plug.

A nice affordable option
I use this on my rebel every time I do time lapse stuff. So far so good. Let us see how long it lasts.Works good for using the live view window or tethered shooting. May try it for stationary portrait stuff soon.Edit 7/1/2014: I still use this for product , time lapse and experimental stuff where I know I'm going to do live view. Still working great and was well worth the price and has lasted without any grief. wish I could give 4.5 stars.

Good price, not so good at actually working
I bought this for my T1i. I read a lot of the reviews and saw others were having problems so I wasn't surprised when I had problems too. At first it didn't work at all, and after checking with a voltmeter to make sure I was getting power to and out of the transformer and then checking to make sure I had power at the connector, I determined it wasn't making good contact when inserted in the camera. I tried the folded piece of paper to push the fake battery in to the chamber further and, behold, the camera powered up.Unfortunately, when ever I tried to take a picture, I got a message on the screen saying the internal temperature of the camera was too hot and it wouldn't take a picture. Hoping I didn't fry the camera, I re-inserted the battery and the camera worked fine. I switched back and forth five times and got the same result. I'm not sure what triggers that overheating fault, but it would appear immediately after I inserted the adapter , so it wasn't like it was sitting there overheating and nothing felt warm on the camera or on the adapter. It happened both inside and outside when the temperature was 30 deg. F., so I don't think there was an actual temperature issue.I resorted to returning it. Luckily, I have the Amazon prime, so I didn't lose out on the shipping costs and it was prepaid to return. Since others have had luck, I may order another one and gamble. I'm too cheap to buy the official one. If you are lucky, you don't mind fiddling with it and you don't have $60+ for the official one, they give it a try. If you want to buy, receive, install and start taking pictures, I would avoid.

Sweet device for the Astrophographer
There's already a review for the extra protusion on the portion that goes into the camera, but since I bought the device knowing that (and how easy it was to fix) my rating isn't going to deduct any points for that.I had no problems with the battery cover closing, nor of the camera recognising it is on AC power. Having the conversion done outside of the camera (NOT in the unit that replaces the camera) means no heat issue, either. But after having fresh charged CANON batteries dead in 2 hours, this puppy is nice. I've been able to take pictures for 6 hours straight with no problems, and have had two rainy nights where I used BackyardEOS to create a library of DARKS by running the camera all night, slightly increasing the time as well as vary the ISO.I saw a review or two mention the power cable that leads from the power converter part of this adapter back to the wall outlet. The cable is common, you probably have a replacement on your old, dead DVR player.Anyway, this device works perfectly with the removal of the protusion as noted in another review here.

The connector is not very stable.
It looks OK. I just realized that the connector to plug into the battery unitis not stable. I had to tape the part to keep the connections.

AC Power Supply for Canon XSi (450D)
This AC adapter is fantastic for my needs. I shoot both long exposure, deep sky images and do time lapse photography with my DSLR. I was looking for something to extend my imaging time so I wouldn't have to swap batteries several times during the night. I use this adapter, a 12V - 110V power inverter and a deep cycle battery for field power. Tried out the system last weekend (3/17/2012) and it worked great. Ran the camera for 3 hours of continuous shooting. I anticipate it could run for days with the large deep cycle battery I have.Build quality of the piece that replaces the battery inside the camera feels a little delicate, but it shouldn't get any rough treatment. At least nothing worse than exposure to cold temperatures. The cord connections and plugs seem sturdy. A few reviews mentioned needing to trim something off the battery adapter to fit in the camera's battery compartment. I had no such issue with the unit I received. If you need extended power for your DSLR, this adapter should work well & the price is right!

Thinking about buying this to save money on the canon one? Don't.
Camera: T1iProduct: Doesn't workEveryone who is thinking about buying one of these needs to read this.Regardless of what other people are saying here with "Take off the '+' plastic piece on the bottom ... jam a piece of paper between the battery and the battery door!" this simply does not work with my T1i.I've checked the voltage coming out of the unit and it's correct (7.4v @ 2A), however my camera will not turn on.Before the "battery door" people on here start jumping all over me, YES THE BATTERY DOOR WAS FULLY SHUT. YES, THE CAMERA WORKS OTHERWISE WITH AN LP-E5.AVOID. Go buy the one issued from Canon, because this unit is complete junk.
