Very helpful
It’s really helpful how it explains, and compares English grammar as well as Russian. I need that. I still have a long way to go with this language but now I have a foundation and I know it’ll come to mind when i need it.

Great beginner book
This jump started my understanding of Russian tremendously and allowed me to understand the differences in how sentences are translated over. Great book for anyone trying to start learning Russian.

Surprisingly informative
As someone who has recently began studying Russian, I've bought 4 general grammar books, including this one. After having read through them all, I have to say most of them are pretty bad for explaining basic grammar and sentence structure. This one is the best of the lot, and actually shows you how sentences are structured and gives a very good explanation of some of the more annoying and difficult aspects of Russian grammar, such as "cases."Most other books I've read-even when claiming to be "beginning" books-have very little beginner info in them. They go from extremely basic sentences ("this is a book") to fairly complex sentences almost immediately, but there is no good, practical, beginner sentences in them. For example, "I went to the store," or "I want to buy a book," or "I am watching TV."This book isn't perfect, and it really isn't meant to be a full-fledged grammar book, but it seems to be the one I am coming back to the most for the nuts and bolts of basic grammar. Given the fact it's quite cheap, i'd say you really have nothing to lose here. Give it a try.

Simple, easy explanation as it relates or differs from Russian. Buy the book!
It is very easy to understand. When in school some classes(those thought to be college material) were taught complete English sentence diagramming and sentence structure, complete grammar. I on the other hand was put in composition English which stressed writing and less grammar. Now I suffer at my old age, not knowing English grammar, studying Russian. I think this will help me really understand the similarities and differences of English versus Russian.Perfect book to learn from. Gives examples of English sentences(parts of speech) and then Russuan similar sentences with explanation of differences!I am impressed.

Excellent English Refresher
I have collected and been using a large number of Russian courses. I had pretty much come to believe that the grammar was too difficult to ever master because I did not fully understand the descriptions that were given in terms of English grammar such as predicates, intensive pronouns etc. This book served as an excellent refresher of English grammar. Now that I have completed this book the grammatical descriptions in other books are a lot easier to understand, A LOT EASIER. Think about it. If Russian grammar is described in terms of English grammatical terms, and you are hazy on them, it makes it much harder to comprehend what is being described.

Great Supplementary Material
As a native speaker of English, it's been years since I gave much thought to English grammar. That is, of course, until I gave this book a chance. It hadn't occurred to me that the best way to understand another language could be to have a better grasp on my own. English and Russian are directly compared section by section in this little book. Grammatical constructs are clearly delineated and accompanied by many helpful examples. This is by no means comprehensive, but it is nonetheless a good supplementary resource.

Recommended for Language Students/Teachers
I absolutely recommend this if you are learning Russian. I have other "English Grammar for Students of..." books and I find them essential if you want to understand grammatical rules for languages. They are a big help. Each grammatical rule (tenses, pronoun use, etc.) is given with an explanation and example, which makes it easy to decipher between languages. If teachers or professors are reading this, take note of how important these books are. They can make foreign language grammar easier for your students. These books could also make learning English grammar easy for English learners.Of course it depends on the person and how they learn, but I found these very useful.

Excellent guide to grammar for Russian language students....
Excellent little book that reiterates any English grammar that you may have forgotten and which is so very important and essential fo the study of foreign languages especially Russian. I have often wondered why people might find Russian so difficult to learn and I think that one of the reasons is that they may be put off by the vast amount of grammar required to understand the fundamentals of the language. It is rarely taught well in our schools today and not to a degree that the average man in the street is comfortable discussing subject, verb and object order in a sentence let alone aspect of the verb and whether an adjective is possessive or not. There are some really excellent Russian language Grammar books available for students of Russian language further on in their studies, but to really take advantage of all these have to offer, a really good knowledge of English grammar ( assuming one is English language speaker) is necessary. Unless you understand your own language well and know what and where your subject and objects are in a sentence, you will rapidly get rather lost in the Russian grammar fundamentals. This book is simply excellent at explaining what, where and how these words work in a sentence, identifying and classifying the types of words and their functions. Note, however, It is a brief guide, so don't expect a lot of detail or the erudite exceptions to the rule.I found it helpful firstly to refresh my memory of the structure of the English sentence as I started learning Russian, and then as a wonderful reference to help my new found Russian 'pen' friends when they were having difficulties with the English language. It is a great pity that it is out of print, because it would be so useful for those starting Russian my one criticism would be that there are a number of uncorrected/ unedited mistakes but they do not stand out as errors until you know quite a bit of Russian.
