Perfect for a Gamer's Family
For me, the perfect family game is very difficult to find. It needs to have enough theme, depth, and player interaction to satisfy me, but the depth and complexity can't obfuscate the strategy, and it can't reward aggression so much that it turns my wife off. This game is it. I find this to be the perfect light civilization/strategy game for more than 2 players (it plays okay at 2 but it really shines at 3 or 4, and Keyforge and War Chest are currently filling the 2-player game slot for my family). It's super easy to teach but has enough depth and theme to engross me, and the game is beautiful even without the upgrade pack. (But of course if you like the game the upgrade pack is so worth it. I mean, it has a volcano meeple, to say nothing of the big wooly mammoth and saber-toothed tiger meeples.) After your opponents have a play or two under their belt, the extra ways to play, like tribal leaders, tribal abilities, and—my personal favorite—alternate terrain types, keep it fresh. After 10 plays I am still enchanted and want to get it back to the table so my wife can beat me again. My 7-year-old can somewhat grok it, and even my mom is getting the hang of it. I totally recommend giving this a try if you are in the same boat as my family.

Great game!
Love love this game! I played once with some friends and immediately decided I needed it!!The instructions can be a bit confusing, but there are lots of online forms and questions you can read for clarification.Otherwise, game play is easy and fun! I'm excited to branch into the advanced game play & I hope sometime soon they release an expansion for more than 4 players

Breath of fresh air.
Rise of Tribes is a light skirmish game where players move across a randomly generated board (made up of various terrain hexes) trying to be the first to score 15 points. The mechanic is fairly unique in that players have a number of actions to choose from (they’ll pick two in any order) but the “strength” of the action is dictated by a number of dice sitting above that action. The symbols on those dice (and the one you’ll be adding to the pool) will determine how powerful the outcome. In general, moon icons are always bad and Sun icons are good. You’ll slide the die you rolled to the left of the three already above the action, pushing the last die out of the row (which is placed in an open slot for others to roll later). As an example, if you slide a Sun die into a row with one sun showing already on another die...and the action is “Grow”...you’ll place 4 tribe members on the board instead of just three. In addition to what’s happening on the board (vying for control, majority ,etc.), you’ll also be trying to accomplish small feats (“control the most Mountain hexes”) as dictated by randomly drawing from your small pile of cards (everyone has the same cards but they may have drawn different ones from you). The game is fast and easy to learn but with a tremendous amount of strategy...without being so intense that players succumb to “analysis paralysis”.This is a very good game. I don’t give it 5 stars simply because I have my favorites and this one doesn’t quite rank up there with the experience of say, Kemet...but it’s not really supposed to either. Kemet is a much more intense beast.Small World immediately popped into my head when we started playing but it quickly became its own thing and while I have a lot of games, I think this one offered enough that I’ll be adding it to my library soon (played a friend’s Kickstarter copy for this review).I recommend this game. It’s approachable by most but offers that “dudes on a map” experience without being pompous.

Dice and Meeples, all you need to know
I loved this game, I demo lots of games for lots of different companies and very few games excite me... THis one doesLet me say that was assigned to demo this at GenCon, I never played it before arrival and only played 3 rounds before spending 4 days, all day doing demos of this gameI then came home late Sunday night, slept a few hours and played a full game on Monday nightThe dice mechanic where you roll, check for Doubles (Doubles trigger an event card) then choose 2 of the four actions (Grow, Move, Gather and Lead) slide the dice to right and move it to the boxThen The Meeples where all is friendly until the 6th drunken meeple shows up and starts the fight...You can build villages and score if your idiot friends don't burn them down (figuratively)Or complete upgrades and complete conditions for pointsIt is a race to 15 and this can be played in under 1 hour if everyone knows how to play... typically 1 hour and 20 minutes if they are new... the events keep things fresh and movingI seriously had people beg me to bring this out and I love this game. Get the Deluxe Upgrade (Pictured above), the pieces really make the game pop and the deluxe box fits inside the game box.It also includes rules for advanced play and expansions on the base game

Smart fast play that is fun for all skill levels!
Was lucky enough to get this game early. It's got a minimal learning curve and moves quickly. The dice mechanics are unique and make for interesting gameplay. The game itself is beautiful and it's worth getting the deluxe version. Tons of replay potential.

Stone Age for the Modern Gamer!
Great game! The only thing is that the Rule Book feels more like a Player Aid and less like a Rule Book.
