The stainless metal finish on the bag, and the end caps is very well done. Directions are straightforward and simple, installation was complete in 15 minutes after aligning and confirming placement into wall studs.

As much as it pains me to admit it, my wife and I are getting older. Things that didn’t concern you at all in your youth become more important, such as being safe in the bath tub and shower. With a wife who has become a bit wobbly on her legs, it was time to put up a safety bar in the shower. The funny thing is that I find it convenient, too.I wanted to find a reasonably priced, stainless steel bar – not a chrome plated one. I also wanted to find one that was 32 inches long so that each end could be anchored into a stud in the wall (studs are usually 16 inches on center). It isn’t easy finding something like that, but Amazon was the place to go. This AmazonBasics bar comes in a couple of different diameters and several lengths, including what I wanted (1 1/2” diameter – 32 inches long).The mounting holes allow you to orient this vertically, horizontally or on an angle. I mounted mine horizontally. The screws that came with the bar were not long enough to go through the tile and wall and deep enough into the stud for my satisfaction, so I had to purchase longer stainless steel screws. I have an old house, though, with plaster walls, so the screws may be long enough for your application.After locating the studs I drilled the mounting holes through the tile with a carbide bit. The holes in the mounting plate are close to the sides of the bar so when I went to put the screws in I used a suitable extension in my drill/driver to for proper clearance for the drill/driver head. If that makes no sense, you’ll figure it out yourself when you go to mount it. A regular screwdriver would have worked, too, but who does that anymore?After mounting the bar, and before snapping the end covers in place, I smeared a bit of silicone caulk along the top edge of the flange and over the top of the screws, just to help keep any water from creeping into the wall. I don’t know if this was necessary, but it eases my mind.This thing is solid! Mounted directly to the studs, it does not move. I am so much more comfortable with my wife using the shower now, and I find it handy myself. Drop the soap? It’s nice to have something to grab onto when you bend over to pick it up. And it’s not a bad place to hang your wash rag when you are done with your shower. I’m very happy with it. For the price I think it is hard to beat.

Metal handicap grab bar. Installed next to toilet. Works great.

The bar feels sturdy and is true to size for the 16 inch one. It’s 16” on center where the bar curves to the wall. Only complaint is that the end bracket for the screws is welded on instead of having a center screw where you can rotate the anchoring screw location. This is fine if you’re installing this bar for the first time but if you used a different brand bar before and you’re just switching up the colors in your bathroom the holes of this bar probably won’t line up with your old screw and anchor locations. I didn’t want to drill more holes in the shower wall so I only used two longer screws into studs rather than the four that you should use. This bar isn’t for full weight or the elderly so it’s fine in my situation but I suggest you use all four screw if you have someone that actually needs it.

I had this installed in 10 minutes from when it showed up at the door. I lined up the holes and used a 1/8 drill to make holes where I made marks using a Sharpy. I used shorter screws because the ones that came with it would have gone out the back side of the board. I was surprised to see only 6 screws total came with it. I ended up using 5 on each side. Using two of the off-set holes in the middle. The middle hole wouldn’t be worth my time to try and get it in with the bar in the way.Very sturdy and well made!
