Not a cure-all, but it does make a difference
I purchased this for my husband's dog, who has allergies to so much (food, the environment, humans), and he's always itchy. He constantly gnaws on himself or scratches himself to the point of bleeding, has hot spots, the works. I've noticed that, when I use this in combination with other stuff (generally coconut oil), it seems to work better, but this is not a cure-all. My usual process it: bathe the dog, baste him in lotion, and slather him with barely melted (but not hot!) coconut oil. This combination seems to help a little bit, but it doesn't STOP his itching. If this alone doesn't work for you, try different combos. Maybe you need additional hydrocortisone cream added, or maybe you need hot spot treatment in conjunction with it, or maybe you need to add a moisturizer (like coconut oil) to your treatment plan - maybe you need a combination of these things. It's not a one-size-fits-all, but it does make a difference. I haven't noticed an increase in shininess, and there's thankfully no lather. It behaves like a lotion/conditioner. It is also VERY thick, so I have added water in the past to thin it out a little bit to make it more spreadable. I imagine you could mix it in a bowl with melted coconut oil or another moisturizer and probably yield a similar result. I've used this immediately after towel drying him, before towel drying him, and when he's totally dry already (as a reapplication). Apart from the fact that he hates getting wet/having anything touch him that isn't dirt or feces or animal carcass, he seems fine. Definitely not itchier, no reaction like it hurts/burns, nothing like that. The smell is fine, it kind of smells like a medical cream, I guess? I don't know. It doesn't stink, just smells like a product. The cost isn't great for the size of the bottle, but in combination with the other things I've mentioned, I won't complain too much. It DOES help make a difference, and I'm able to stretch the bottle out to last longer. I've bought two bottles now, one in September of 2024, the next one in October 2025. I don't use this daily for him, it's as-needed, because I've noticed it can make his fur feel kind of greasy (with or without coconut oil). You may use more or less than I did. Definitely doesn't hurt to give it a try, help your puppy feel less miserable. :) Picture attached for your viewing pleasure of the itchy boy himself.

AtopiCream HC Worked Like a Charm
My dog had red hot skin on her belly and the vet ordered a prescription that wouldn't be ready for a few days. She recommended getting this cream to use while waiting. I am so glad that I decided to buy it. It helped SO much!! It is a soft creamy lotion that has a slight smell but nothing strong or offensive by any means. It was rather inexpensive and it lasts a while. It kept my dog comfortable while waiting for her prescription. I am so glad I followed her recommendation!!

Immediately relieves dry skin and soothes on contact
My cocker spaniel has struggled for a long time with severe dermatitis and recurring fungal infections that caused major fur loss, hot spots, and constant skin irritation. Despite medications and steroids, nothing brought her real relief. I switched to an all-natural, plant-based shampoo and decided to try this lotion after her baths to help with her dry, irritated skin. It’s only been a week since I started using this lotion, and the results are remarkable. She has completely stopped scratching, and she’s finally able to sleep soundly—snoring and truly relaxed. Her skin has returned to a healthy, normal color, and her fur has already started growing back. To see this much improvement in just 7 days is incredible. The lotion is very easy to use, absorbs beautifully, and leaves no oily residue. It doesn’t stain, smell, or leave anything behind—just soft, calm skin. The bottle is convenient too; when it gets low, I simply turn it upside down and tap it to bring the product forward, and a small cut in the bottle releases the rest. Absolutely fabulous product—worth every penny. I won’t stop using it.

I'm a master groomer....this comment MIGHT help you...
Look, Yes, this stuff is very thick, but do you realize that you can dilute it...I dilute it 20:1 then I put it in a spray bottle for daily ease of use. I also dilute it 8:1 during a bath...do NOT rinse it off. After your dog dries (at least 12 hours) put a onesie on them to prevent further chewing(only for shorter coated dogs) If you have a full coated St. poodle like me that has skin issues do your BEST to get the driest you can. Wet coats cause skin issues Even if you have to go to self service grooming shop. Do not dry them completely bc the dryer WILL blow off all of the medicated rinse. This is why the spray afterwards will help. Get it in the coat and let it dry....if you can't stop the chewing then maybe try fooey chewing deterrent for small spots or bitters. Get shampoos that are medicated but not tea tree, I never recommend this bc I've used it on myself and it burns like a SOB. I use all products on myself b4 used on my animals. If they have irritated skin it will hurt/burn. If no irritation, no problem. Keep hot spots DRY, this is why I do not understand sprays for hot spots. Aquaphor ointment will work fine, but keep the coat dry as possible. If you wash a thick coated dog (ex pomeranian, collie, doodle, husky) then either buy a good dog dryer or use self service grooming shop to borrow theirs. This will help drastically. Also, make sure you rinse any product completely out! Unless it is leave-on rinse/conditioner. I will post an after picture in a few weeks. The picture is of our Scottish Terrier. PS: shaving a full coated dog does NOT cool them off in the summer. Their coats keep them cool. It is their own A/C . Groomers shave your dog w/o telling you this bc of 3 reasons. Money, its easier AND many don't want to anger YOU. It's a customer service issue. A regular deshed groom costs more bc it is WAY more work to completely do a deshed groom to your dog. Shaving them down CAN damage their coats...it will come in thicker or thinner. Imagine shaving your legs, then 3 more come back where you shaved on your legs. There's a difference in breed clips and shaving down a Husky. Also, if a dogs hair is unmanageable of course shave them, like shih tzus...their hair tangles A LOT. Chewing on themselves causes matting. Doodles are NOT dander free. The dander stays in their coat...and yes they DO shed it just stays in their coats, mostly. All dogs shed, they are dogs. Don't let anyone sell you this lie. Full coated dogs still shed, it usually stays in the coat and causes mats as well. 95% of pet owners own brushes and I guarantee 💯 that hair comes out on that brush. If you want mats out use a BENDABLE SLICKER ONLY WITH A COMB! You're welcome. I have a video on how to use one. It's not letting me post it on here. Our tiktok is thedirtydog360....it is towards the bottom of our videos. My St Poodle is so relaxed while I brush him he looks dead.
