Best Surprise Xmas Gift
Bought this for my husband for Xmas. He's former military and has a love of all things tactical. It's hard for me to find him unique gifts because he's mostly interested in knives, flashlights, and survival gear. I found this Notebook case and thought it would be perfect. He can customize it as he sees fit. There are a ton of pockets and zippers. On the inside they provided what they call a 10 page Checklist Organizer. I think of it like those photo inserts in wallets, only this is much bigger. There are 10 sleeves and you can put anything you want in them. At the top its got velcro so you can remove it, move it some place else, attach it to the front or really wherever. Or don't use it at all. My husband is currently an Armed Guard and I thought he could use it to put his Guard Card and various licenses in. There are lots of options for notebooks that will fit inside. A regular composition book will work great, but I ended up ordering him the Mead Cambridge Wirebound Business Notebook, Legal Rule, 6 5/8 x 9 1/2 Inches. It fits perfect, and while it's a spiral notebook it is perforated for tearing the pages out. The pages also have a date area in the top right corner, which I thought would come in handy when he needs to write notes or log activity at his work site. I also bought him a black matte Space Pen and had it all set up and ready for when he opened it.Needless to say my husband was totally surprised, and LOVED it. While a relatively small gift, it ended up being his favorite present this year. Even over his new huge Maglite he got, which was the thing he asked for and was initially most excited about. He's already started filling the pockets, I think theres an emergency Chemlight in there, and some latex gloves. The Notebook came super fast for regular (non-prime) shipping. I haven't dealt with the company direclty but I was impressed they included notes with the invoice letting me know I could contact them with any issues or comments, or suggestions to enhance their products. I thought that was pretty cool. Companies don't usually care what your opinion is. I feel pretty confident that if we were to have an issue with it that they'd take care of it. I doubt we will because the thing is super well made. I liked it so much when it got here I think I might order one for myself, and keep my coupons, lists, mom things etc in it.

A great field notebook for an archaeologist
This is a fantastic notebook. I've always been a fan of using composition books for notes and wanted a cover. This does the job perfectly! As an archaeologist, I like that it has the checklist pages -though I haven't quite decided what to put in these, I do have some ideas. I'm actually considering picking up a second so I can have one at home and one at my office. If I could make an adjustment to it, the one thing I'd definitely add would be a half-inch wide nylon strap sewn into the spline on the outside to slip my left hand through. A tight one, not a loose one. That would give the notebook more stability in the field when I'm writing in it. A map case on the back side like one of the larger models has would be useful to me as well, though I've been printing topos and folding them so they fit in the inside back.Edit/Update: I've been using this notebook cover for over a year now, just about every single day at work. In the office and in the field. The one thing I'd like to see added the most is a nylon strap sewn on the outside of the spline so that I can hold it more securely in the field while I'm writing or reading in it. If Tactical Notebook Covers adds that feature, I'll buy a 2nd cover!

It is an excellent setup that allows for a number of different combinations
I have been using what is generally called a "junior legal pad" (5" x 8") which I kept in a folio that was a part of a conference swag package. The problem was that I also had a notebook (Junior Circa from Levenger) that I also wanted to use but was too difficult to carry together with the folio. This case allows me to carry both at the same time. Some details that are not apparent from the pictures and description: Each interior side has two horizontal pockets (one near the top and one near the bottom). Each side also has a vertical pocket running the length of the side. It is an excellent setup that allows for a number of different combinations. On the exterior there is a front pocket for pens as well as a pocket just above that area for other items. Finally, there is a pocket that runs along the back of the entire case. An excellent value and very flexible.
