Hilarious !
I give this book to my friends when they find they are pregnant. I give it before they deliver because after, they won't have time to sit, relax and enjoy it. I first read this book many years ago and am glad I can still order it when I want to give it to someone. Everyone LOVES it, Dave Barry, although a man, captures very well the experience of pregnancy and what women go through. You won't be disappointed.

Completely accurate
When I first read this, before I had (or even considered having) children, I assumed that it was intended as humor, and I laughed (a lot) at what I imagined were its comic exaggerations. Now that I have a child, I realize that this is in fact a no-nonsense, completely serious and accurate description of pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing.While other baby books mislead you with emotional descriptions of the joy and wonder your "little one" will bring, Dave Barry pulls no punches in his hard-hitting, gritty portrayal of baby behavior. There is a quiz early on whose purpose is to deter prospective parents who may be weak of heart or stomach, with questions such as "How many diapers will an average baby go through before it is toilet-trained?" or "What is the most repulsive thing a baby would put in its mouth?" Those of you who are parents will know the answers. Those of you who are not, be warned: you may think Dave Barry's answers are too outrageous to be true, but you're wrong!Anyway, this book is an excellent source of information for anyone who is considering having children, or who is considering not having children. It is also useful for those who already have children, as it will reassure them that they are not alone -- though they may wish they had read (and heeded) it sooner.

Very very funny
My husband and I are thinking about trying to conceive soon, and we thought this would be a great humorous view of the whole process. And, it is! As always Dave Barry brings such true humor to the process. I especially love the recounts of conversations he's had with his child, espeically the ones that revolve around the word "Why?".... (e.g., "That's a goat." "Why?") My only gripe is that there isn't more to this book, a lot of page space is dedicated to only mildly amusing pictures.Overall though, a fun read which you can finish in one or two sittings.

A baby book that is more truthful than most others
This book is ancient, and I give it to all pregnant/new parents, because it's completely hilarious. My favorite part of the book is when Barry talks about the difference between first and second children--chronicling every 10 minutes of tooth eruption in baby #1, but saying "Bobby was born and is now in the 4th grade" for baby #2.Make sure when someone has a kid, you don't bring presents only for the baby!

I give this book every time a friend gets pregnant ...
I give this book every time a friend gets pregnant. It should be the ONLY baby book read. Having a baby is hard enough, so a hearty laugh is the go to and this is hours of roaring laughter. I brought this into the labor room for all three of my deliveries starting 32 years ago and I still read it when I need a laugh.

Loved it when I was pregnant 30 years ago
I bought two of these to give as gifts to expecting parents. It seems the printer made a mistake and printed on paper that was too big. The print in the book is the size of the graphics on the front cover. The pink on the cover shows the excess paper. I would consider this book a "second". The book itself is humorous. Loved it when I was pregnant 30 years ago!

Must Buy for Dads, funny and simple
Hilarious! A friend had this book out and my husband picked it up and could not put it down. He belly laughed many times reading it. Not overly useful, but a fun lighthearted book that takes a fun look at pregnancy and babies. It also helps that the illustrations are super comical and practical :) Makes a great shower gift for soon to be dads (moms too). This will be a shower gift for friends in the future!

Dave Barry is hysterical!
I laughed all the way through the game on Super Bowl Sunday 1986 reading this book. My second baby had been born on Dec. 16th, and a friend had sent me the book. I purchased it for my daughter-in-law who had a baby last March. A must-read for all mothers!
