Awesomely Funny Book
Great illustrations with excellent story. One silly monster eats the next silly monster in a series of improbable events. Meanwhile, Louis is stuck in the belly of the smallest monster. Big sister Sarah invents great contraptions to try to catch the monsters and free her brother. My 2 and 5 year old both love it. Also, Louis' big sister is a great feminist role model. She has courage, great mechanical skill and practical clothing.

Wonderful, detailed illustrations and a funny, sweet story. Highly recommended.
This book is so good. My nearly-four-year-old absolutely delights in it, and so do I. We giggle over the names of the creatures; we pore over the clever and detailed pictures; we cheer on the brother and sister who rescue each other so cleverly. It's one of my all time favorites, of the hundreds and hundreds of picture books I've read to my kids.

We love this imaginative and and whimsical book
We love this imaginative and and whimsical book. And, as a parent, it is delightful to see a strong female character who uses her inventive engineering skills to rescue her little brother, instead of an all-too-common helpless princess motif.

beautiful new classic!
We love this book! WE rented it from the library and after reading it multiple times a day, I knew I had to add it to our permanent collection. A definite favorite with funny made-up words and a storyline that promotes step-by-step thinking and logic skills.

Fun and entertaining
Our four grandchildren, ages 3, 5, 7, and 9 years old, all will listen to me read this story. They continue to laugh out loud, even after hearing it read to them many times. As the grandparent-doing-the-reading, I love it also for the illustrations!

Another winner from John Fardell
I first starting reading John Fardell's Maddie the Baddie to my grandson Jude when he was only three. Three years on it remains his favourite bedtime reading. The lovely illustrations are so profuse and diligently executed that even now we spot previously unnoticed material. The Day Lewis Got Eaten had us both in fits of laughter from the word go. From the laconic "unfortunately Louis got eaten ..." to, and beyond, the point where he is eaten five or six more times it is another example of this fine author and illustrator's supremacy in writing for both children and adults who love to read to them. I have followed John Fardell's brilliant cartoon work in Viz for many years. High time this man got at least a knighthood if not a Nobel prize for literature.

A fabulous book
Brilliant book. I had to buy it for my grandsons after getting it from the library. Aged 5 and 3 they absolutely love it.The brother and sister go on an adventurous ride which involves the sister gathering items along the way which enable her to follow her younger brother who has been swallowed whole by a huge monster. The story is a little like 'there was an old woman who swallowed a fly' in that subsequent monsters then swallow the previous monster with little Louis still inside. The continuity of the story is lovely with the big sister following, using the items she has gathered to help her follow over canyons, the sea and perilously high cliffs.Ultimately, of course, Louis' sister rescues him and they head for home (again using the items found en route)The illustrations are really detailed and my little grandsons study them intently to find things they have missed, especially on the final page where you can see the route the brother and sister took and the monsters hidden about who have wonderful names that also inspired some adventurous role playing.I would highly recommend this book and congratulate the author and illustrator.

Nicely gruesome!
Small people love this - hilariously named creatures munching a small boy - but the hiccough frog saves the day - and the boy!

Delightful
A wonderful and delightful book. My son (also called Louis!) loves this story. Louis and his sister go out for a walk when Louis gets eaten by a monster... then the monster gets eaten by a bigger monster and so on. I particularly like beautiful and detailed illustrations. On every page you can see a tiny piece of the next monster to appear, and Sarah's innovative inventions are fab! Highly recommended :-)
