Multi purpose wire
This stuff is fantastic! I recently used it to modify a Super Nintendo Junior console for RGB output. The great thing about magnet wire in my book is the firmness of it. It might not be entirely intended for the case I was using it for but it makes running wires around circuit boards so much easier as you can bend and shape it to a precise path without having to tape it down to keep it in place. The insolation seems fairly good too as the signal interference that I was getting using my previous wire is no longer visible when running the SNES thru a video upscaler.Great stuff and it's going to be my "go to" wire from now on.

It's MAGNET WIRE. It's not supposed to be MAGNETIC!
Used to wind transformers for ham radio antennas. Several reviews of magnet wire have complained that it is not magnetic. That's OK; it;s copper and should not be magnetic. The reason it's called magnet wire is that one use is to make electromagnets and solenoids; a form of electromagnets. It's also used to make the windings in electric motors, alternators and generators. The coating is pretty tough, as it should be. It scrapes off easily with a sharp knife to prepare for soldering. I like the red coating because it's easier to tell when it's been scraped off. I also bought the copper colored product and it's harder tell when all of the clear coating has been scraped off.

Good value
Good quality, very thin. But kindda fragile

Thickness discrepancy
There is an apparent discrepancy between the 30 AWG specification and the outer diameter specified for this product. 30 AWG magnet wire has a nominal thickness of .0100" with a tolerance of +/-.0001". This does not include the enamel thickness. Depending on the insulation thickness, the diameter could range from .0106" to .0138". Is there any better info for this item than what is reported in the "About this item" section?
