Charles Karaut
My great uncle (who I remember vividly as a child traveling South) was featured in this book and I was surprised to actually find it! I wanted to share this wonderful information with my grand children and I actually found this book! The article is called, "Scholar of The Piney Woods"!

Great Read!
In this book Charles Kuralt interviews folks from all walks of life across the United States. Many of these folks are the last of their kind still running age old jobs that have long been abandoned due to the industrial revolution. Others are following their dreams no matter how odd or eccentric they may be, life in small towns and a whole list of many more interesting characters you'll meet as Charles travels the country in search of those people who are happy just being themselves as they bring joy to others in the best ways they know how.Though the stories are a bit dated, after reading this book, it makes me have hope that there are still many Americans as mentioned in the book, out there helping others in ways that others might find absurd, or someone inventing a job that only a child would dream up, or college kids who lack a bright future but make that future bright for themselves and their families. I have hope that there are Americans still out there making their dreams and happiness a reality in the lives of other Americans.

Totally Enjoyable
This is a book filled with the actual content of the On The Road segments from CBS news in the 60's-80's. It features everyday, yet extraordinary, Americans. Some have been doing jobs their whole lives that we didn't think still even existed. Many are working to make their town a better place. Kuralt writes like he speaks in a flowing style that is a joy to read. Since it is made up of many short chapters, this would be a great book for a vacation.

Nothing like him on the air today
A master story teller...this book is a tome to regionalism. The book is basically transcripts of his TV spots. As a kid, we used to run to the TV whenever he came on "the Cronkite".

I also like reading about the down home part of America Charles ...
My husband likes reading Charles K. books. He had the paperback, but I wanted to get him the Hardback. I also like reading about the down home part of America Charles traveled and wrote about.

Excellent Traveler
Charles Kuralt is missed because he took the road less traveled and brings it to your heart. A gifted man, who sought out the stories of people not known to the public for great things nationally and yet now they are. Been enjoying reading other books by him too. Will possibly purchase DVDs by the author too. CBS would be wise to publicize and reissue the books & stories. They could replay specials and add them to other news programs. They could sell them to PBS or other stations to air too.
