How to Grow Orchids: A Beginner’s Guide to Growing Orchids

I bought this book after seeing some of it on kindle, What a nice presentation to learn about orchids. The fact that it is simply written, clear and has the pronouncing of the Latin names of the different types of Orchids.

Living in Florida there are Orchids to buy everywhere! We moved here four years ago and I have been wanting to try growing some Orchids. Thanks to Ms. Barnwells book I finally got the courage to buy some for our home.How to Grow Orchids is a comprehensive guide on the care of Orchids. The book has information on everything you need to know and then some.There is information about the different types of Orchids, lighting, watering, feeding, potting, mounting, pests and diseases, and even propagation.How to grow Orchids gave me the knowledge to give these beautiful plants a try without the fear of killing them. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a beginners guide to growing Orchids.

The book does contain useful info about growing orchids; however, it only has basic photos in black and white which limits its usefulness to me. If B&W photos were replaced with color photos, it would be a vast improvement. Also, photos with labels to make things clearer would help.

Like the author, I've been too scared to even attempt growing orchids. I always thought they were so delicate, so fragile and so exotic that they needed an expert to coax them to live long enough to bloom. NO MORE! This book is truly "soup to nuts" on the topic of growing orchids. With so many tips and specific instructions for all the various types of orchids, it's given me enough knowledge that I now have the confidence to try something I've always wished I could do!

Being a beginning orchid grower I found this to be a particularly useful book. The descriptions of the most common orchids, their habits and needs were particularly useful. I appreciated that the author did not wallow around in extraneous detail just to exhibit his knowledge. The section on water and fertilizer was succinct and to the point with just the information I could use.Great JobTed

I got this book since I live in Hawaii.Orchids are everywhere.But every time I buy orchids they die a quick death.I dont have a Green thumb...but a brown or black thumb forthe kiss of death for the orchids.This book helped me understand what i was doing wrongand what steps to take to keep these guys aliveand maybe get a green thumb for Orchids.

Book wasn't bad, but it did not assist in organizing info about orchids. There have to be better resources.

It's a very good book for beginners, it cover most orchids needs. Very easy to understand. Encourage the reader to take care it's plant.

The book is very informative, touching on all areas of orchid growing. I loved it, how better to look after my babies. Highly recommend.
