Resident review
I have lived in New Orleans all of my life and I think Kit Wohl has covered her bases very well. I am giving copies of this book to my children who now live away from home and miss the New Orleans classic cuisine. Some of these recipes are among their favorites.

Great Christmas gift
Gave it to my son and daughter-in-law for Christmas. They are a couple of foodies who live in New Orleans part of the year. They loved the book.

Beautiful Celebration
I’m not sure it is possible for someone not from South Louisiana to understand how food, music and celebrations combine to form the fabric of life in New Orleans. For a native, New Orleans Classic Celebrations is a treasure collection of famous restaurants, classic dishes, chefs and local celebrities. For the non-native, it is their best chance to understand what makes New Orleans so special.Kit Wohl has put together a fabulous collection of recipes, exceptionally beautiful pictures and special tidbits of the charm of New Orleans. This is a beautiful coffee table book – and it is simply too stunning to think of taking it into the kitchen. But for anyone wishing to replicate a dish they enjoyed in one of the famous restaurants of New Orleans, this is a must have in the kitchen. The foreward was written by Chris Rose. If you are a native, you will certainly remember his insightful and poignant writing about life after Katrina. Although the foreward is only one page, you once again get to experience his unique style. He captures the essence of what is to follow. There are some fifty recipes from 27 of New Orleans’ most famous restaurants and one from Boise Bollinger owner of Bollinger Shipyards. You really gain some insight about the passion of food when a recipe from a shipyard gets featured among some of the most famous restaurants in New Orleans. The recipes are well presented and explained. But what will really gain your attention is the accompanying photographs. Some of the most stunning food photographs I have even see. In addition to the photographs of food are some wonderful scenes from New Orleans and the surrounding area. On the final page is a stunning picture of St. Louis Cathedral taken from the Mississippi River. For those not well versed in South Louisiana cooking, there are instructions for making Creole seasoning, Blackened seasoning and Poultry seasoning. Then there is a full discussion of how to make a Roux - ranging from light to the dark. No book on South Louisiana cooking would be complete with a lesson on the Trinity – chopped onion, celery and bell peppers. For the locals, this would be a wonderful addition to your collection of all things remarkable about New Orleans. For visitors, you will want to soak up all the wonderful vignettes scattered throughout the book. You will also treasure the beautiful pictures of the food and the places. This book captures a slice of New Orleans love affair with food, local celebrities and all the things that make New Orleans so unique.I was provided a review copy of this book.
