Haynes Build Your Own Retro Radio Advent Calendar

Really neat alternative to chocolate advent calendars. Really fun and totally recommend. It’s nothing fancy but it’s a fun project.

I was going for a alternative calendar this year. However it is not worth the money. It says in the description it takes 2 AA batteries which are not included. However as you can see, it actually needs a 9v battery! Then on day 2 i opened the door to a red long wire. The instruction book spoils things by saying what's in each door. However door 2 was supposed to be a battery clip. Without that you can't carry on. I luckily thought to check but had to open all the doors and found the part in door 5! The science experiments and education is very good and I hope that it is a complete build. Not worth £20 and not clear on what is is.

Great advent calendar when you want something a bit different. Bought for my husband who has worked with electronics for years but this retro radio has taken him back to his boyhood. He says that the components are of better quality than he expected. Can see us dismantling it after Christmas and passing it on to a much younger generation so that they can learn about the basics of electrical engineering.

My husband was over the moon with this as an alternative idea for an advent calendar. All was going well until day 18 when we opened the completely sealed door to find it empty! According to the booklet it should have been a disc capacitor but alas nothing!No way to contact the company and to late to send back by then.A nice idea but left disappointed on this occasion.

bought as a gift, something different for a non chocolate lover....

The product doesn’t work. It does not say you have to build it from day 1 and a lot of the parts don’t match the instructions.
