great read
I love the history that is shown in a beautiful aspect of Mexico in this book. Albeit, some gruesome truths ti the repercussions of the revolution. Even more beautiful is that I relate to a this book that relates to your my history. I’ve heard so many stories of old Mexico and the mystery, the miracles, the spiritual aspects of it, and this book captures it so beautifully and eloquently! Although most of it is based in California and not Mexico. The spirit lives on in these once Mexican states. I had a great time reading it and it’s my third time reading it because every time I read it I go to a place in my heart that holds still with the mystery and beauty of life.

Book is perfect!
This is my first time purchasing a book from Pima Library. The book was listed as good condition but it is in perfect condition. The slip that came in the book as if I walked in myself and checked it out was what really got me. Thank you for a perfect book!

BeautyStory
I read this outstanding book, different cover, over 25 years ago. I still have the original copy. It just reminds me so much of my family and my heritage from Mexico. Everyone should read it, it has a little drama and even some comedy. I have always wished to meet the author. Love to all!!!

Great inspiration
The Rain of Gold is the story of two Mexican families, and more specifically two individuals who meet and marry, from those two families. It begins with the first very proud generation living in Mexico and moves into the next generation trying to survive the great turmoil during the Mexican revolution. It is about every day life in the Mexico they love and the great beauty of their land. It is about a successful people who live from the bountiful land and then become homeless as happens to many during war. Their immigration to the United States, where they become day laborers just to survive, is truly an amazing story. It is the story is the author's family. It is a story of faith, alcoholism, bootlegging, love, laboring in the fields and the treatment of Mexicans in a country that uses them but doesn't accept them. It is a book of humor, tears and finally triumph. If you want to really begin understand about a people who live all around this country but might appear foreign to you, this is a start. It gave me a whole new perspective about the Mexicans/Indians in this country. I do highly recommend this book, a must read.

A shared legacy
My parents were very close to the same ages as Juan and Lupe. However, our family was in New Mexico. My family moved from New Mexico to Utah in the mid 1940's and I, number 10 in our family, was born in Utah, in 1948. It was very much like moving from old Mexico, culturally speaking. Although we were not Roman Catholic, our family had a similar dedication to God and family. This is the second time I have read this delightfully beautiful book! I am going to get copies for my grand kids to read. Their Mom's married Anglos and our families are biracial. This is an opportunity to give them a glimpse of where their roots come from. I can't wait! It is all so beautifully written. It has been a sweet revisiting of my favorite book!

Intriguing
If you are intrigued by the history of Mexico you will like this book. It is interesting and well-written, although I did feel it bogged down a bit about 3/4 of the way through.

Fantastic!
Missed preparing many dinners and late for several appointments because I couldn't put this story aside. Wonderful story of love and how to say "I love you" a lot more often. Thank you!
