This is essentially a deer buck grunt with a flex tube. To use this as an elk bugle, you must remove the wooden mouthpiece to access the sound board and use it as an open reed call. The model that I received seemed to have an issue with the little rubber retainer that holds the reed in place. It would dislodge fairly consistently whenever the wooden end piece would be removed to use the call. A dab of super glue would likely have fixed the issue, but I opted to return it instead.
