A good read, but...
This is the 2nd of Finder's books that I've read (Moscow Club). I enjoyed reading them. Plots is good. Characters are believable. There's a growing thing between Nick and Diana (good). They were an item once, but split, and now they find themselves working not quite together; you see Diana is a Feeb, and Nick isn't.The plot was good. There are the requisite number of twists, turns and surprises. Things get revealed. Things are foreshadowed. Surprise bad guys. A good and satisfying ending.BUT... there is something about this book (and the other) that didn't make them completely compelling reading; you know, where you let the dog go hungry, you skate on paying the bills, etc. because, "I was reading this book, and couldn't put it down." When I read "Hunt for Red October" I took the book to work and took extended bathroom breaks so I could read it in there! Buried Alive, while good, was not at that level. There were times when the plot just plodded along, or the foreshadowing was so obvious that I didn't want to turn the page to see it come true. Things got better towards the end, and the final scene, was pretty good.I would have given 5 stars if the plot hadn't scraped along in places. There's another Nick Heller book available. I think I want to read the teaser pages first.

Finder's best yet
I was supposed to review the first Nick Heller book VANISHED, but I was going through a transitional period in my life and ran out of time. I am going to say flat out, I was a little disappointed with the book only because I always expect a lot from a Joseph Finder novel, and I felt that there was something missing from that first Nick Heller novel for me to enjoy it as much as I had the others. Each one had always been better than the previous, except for VANISHED.Then comes BURIED SECRETS. I read this on via my new Kindle and while I really would rather hold a paper book in my hand, I thought this would be a great way to get a jump start on the world of the kindle plus enjoy one of my favorite authors. Thank goodness, BURIED SECRETS was a lot better than the first Nick Heller novel, and by far my favorite Joseph Finder book. This was one of those books that you just don't want to put down (which I had to, because I had to work), but while I read the book my eyes were glued to that page. I tend to have panic attacks on occasion, and I have to admit the whole situation of that poor girl had me holding my breath... Finder did a great job taking the reading INSIDE all that was going on (I won't say what as it is a big spoiler) but each chapter kept me wanting more, and as someone else wrote on this website, they were disappointed it had to end, as was I. It was almost a let down.If there is another book made from one of Finder's books, it has to be this one.Cannot wait for another Nick Heller book, Joe! Keep them coming!

Finder hits another one out of the park
This type of story (the action-packed thriller that is Buried Secrets) is why Joseph Finder has been my favorite author ever since I happened upon a paperback copy of Extraordinary Powers in a bookstore back in the '90s. He is simply a great storyteller. He teases you with bits of information that make you want to (actually have to) keep reading, but with most of them you get a payoff quickly instead of having to wait until the end. He does save a few of the big revelations until the end, of course, but I just love the way he parcels out the smaller revelations throughout the book. Most authors attempt to do this, but Finder is a master at it. He seems to do it effortlessly. Now, about Buried Secrets, I won't describe the plot since everyone else already has. I just want to point out how much better a book can be if you read it knowing nothing about it. Since I know I'll read whatever Finder writes, I don't read any of the excerpts, descriptions or reviews before I read his stuff. Reading Buried Secrets this way, I was able to enjoy Finder's amazing ability to put you in the mind of the character as she discovers what has happened to her. (I won't be more specific just in case anyone reading this has managed to avoid the major plot element I'm talking about.) You just can't appreciate this description as fully as I did if you've already read even the book jacket, which gives away this part of the story. He really is a great writer!I can't wait for the next Finder book, Nick Heller or not! You can never go wrong with a Joseph Finder creation. I highly recommend every one of his books.

Back in action
This is a really good thriller, well ahead of many of the current crop of all-action heroes filling the bookstands right now. Nick Heller first appeared in 'Vanished' and now he's back in full working mode.Brought in by a mega-rich family friend to find his kidnapped daughter, Nick soon discovers that the family friend is not quite as rich as was believed and that his daughters's kidnapping is just the start of a very carefully prepared plan to obtain highly sensitive government information. The book reads well, the action is taut and the story develops almost seemlessly. The author manages to include a small selection of oddball characters, some of whom are of help to Nick, some of whom stand the test of psycopathic killers very well. His own social life, for a change in these sorts of books, progresses reasonably well in and amongst the search for the girl, helped, I guess, by his newly reacquainted squeeze who is part of the FBI team also involved in this search. But it is Nick and his own office team who discover most of the detail which eventually leads to an excellent race against time as the kidnappers fall out and the girl is left to the mercy - or lack of it - of the afore-mentioned psychopath. For those of us who are big Landrover fans, the venerable Defender plays its part, too! 'Buried Secrets' is well up to the first book and Heller is more than a match for certain other individuals we have tended to use as reference points for comparison. It's a book which will grip you with an ending that well, makes you want for more. Let's hope book 3 is in work at the moment.

an enjoyable read
I started reading and then couldn’t put down. I like the Nick Heller character, although we all like a hero! I will carry on reading the rest of the series as Joseph Finder is my new author find.

Another good read
I enjoyed this as much as the first in the series. The tension builds and builds you see that Nick as a Character is developing and is not as finley polished as say Jack Reacher was in the second book.Never the less I did enjoy the book and would like to read more. I hope that Nick gets more physical in the future more dare I say Reacheresque. Other than that another good readCracking job Mr Finder

A great new character
A great new character. I really enjoyed this outing for Nick Heller. For me he ranks up there along with Elvis Cole, Jack Reacher and Spenser. So I for one will be looking for a long career for Mr. Heller. If you like the genre of the serial detective Nick Heller is a breath of fresh air I would recommend you give a try.

Exciting mystery kidnapping and rescue
This novel starts running at the start an doesn't stop. Very difficult to put down. Plan B is a short story, a prelude another novel, perhaps.
