The Bridge on the River Kwai: Collector's Edition (Academy Award Winners Including Best Picture)

ANYBODY WHO HAS GROWN UP IN THERE 80s and 90s childhood will Certainly know about this Classic movie.As a Child growing up Bombays My father Lovingly watched movies with me which he would get every evening and one day he got this movie BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI and what a wonderful experience it was getting to know this world of cinema,though now in Bluray its much more efficent with superior Image quality and sound.But the essence of the movie is the same with Strong emotions of human MADNESS of War and HUMAN SPIRIT OF GOODNESS AND CREATION.My father Greatly Encouraged me in movies like this in NCPAmumbai/bombay because of him I have great taste in Cinema.Earlier David lean Movie I had seen was "lawrence of Arabia" which was Outstanding! But Lawrence of Arabia came after Bridge on the River Kwai.So I have to give Respect to the Filmcrew at that time with the hardwork and Enthusiasm.Wonderful classic movie which won severals BAFTAS and OSCARS. The Blu Ray Remaster is a must to Buy IF you want a Taste of Real Cinema.We Indians can Identify with this movie because like British Raj in India,British also had an empire in Ceylon.which this Movie shows Greatly.Sometimes I feel that back in the day people paid a lot to see this films and even by VHS tapes then Dvd later but now finally BLURAY! I will say out of all BLURAY Is much worthy for the next 20 years however If you dont feel like paying High Price tags.I suggest looking in Amazon.in for a good discount.I am glad I got a good discount.Colonel Nicholsan(alec guiness) defies the brutal Japanese colonel Saito(sessue haykawa) in his own Prisoncamp in Burma occupied by japanese troops.Nicholsan belive in the geneva code which saito defies and does slavery to the british soldiers and makes them do manual labour and work on building a bridge for the japanese troops to cross through trains into others parts of southeast asia and into India.But the british soldiers wont work since there colonel is being harassed and punished into the scorching heat with no food and water.The Japanese colonel tries to Break him to submit to his demands but the Colonel Nicholsan is too strong with willpower and His ideals.He belives that his men and officers must be treated reasonably with rations and food.Alec guiness plays a wonderful colonel and he does this role a great justice! He Is so into this character and very strong willed man who must stand up for what he belives in. The British POVs later have even more faith in there colonel for the strength he has shown and support for his mens rights.The colonel later agrees and creates a pact with the japanese colonel to make bridge fresh from start with British engineering skills.Meanwhile an escaped american navy soldier after surviving escaping the camp is forced by british commandos on ceylon to lead them there back to blow up the Bridge.So In these movies there are 3 different people with very strong belief in themselves and each go according to there personal belief some for GOOD some for War madness and killing. This movie is very strong Psychological and Men machoism and Gentlemens Subtlety.In the end in a way it is a ANTIWAR Message by the Director.What a Nice movie to add to my Library! Amazon.in could keep some more david lean movies. The movie has some nice cinematrography shots with landscape of real ceylon and the jungles and the British cantonments.There is no women in this movie but there is one British women in the Beach with swimsuit scene and 3 burmese/thai girls who assist the commandos through jungle.But the MAIN STAR PERFORMANCES ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH TO ENJOY THIS CLASSIC MOVIE! The Bluray quality is very good but i notice in some scenes there is kind of blurry on the side of the frames probably bcoz of lens back then but overall a good quality film shot in 1950sand its impossible to forget the whistling March song which has become a great hit even till now and you can see it get Revieved in the New Expendables 3 movie!Cinematography-10/10Locations-10/10Soundfx-10/10Visual effects-10/10Casting/actors-10/10Bluray quality-10/10 Some good behind the scenes documentary/features-10/10

One of my favorite movies with memorable action and drama. A battalion of captured British soldiers in Burma were ordered to build a bridge by the imperial Japanese army. What followed thereafter was a remarkable effort of diligence and bravery with an unforgettable climax. I had the video cassette with me for a long time but watching it in DVD gives the extra experience.

I know this is a Great Classic, however the DVD did not work in my player and kept showing "wrong region" message. Finally could not watch the DVD and so had to return back to the seller

The blu ray CD does not play, I got it replaced even then its not playing. Most media players not supporting blu ray.

This is a great steelbook edition of such a classic film the pop art is amazing the picture quality of the film is goid the sound quality is brilliant it plays in full english without subtitles.I have always wanted a copy of this film and when I saw this at such a reasonable price I thought why not lovely film in a lovely steelbook case.
