Conventional Gear: Flying a Taildragger (General Aviation Reading series) Paperback – October 1, 2001

Excellent book and material. I was looking for a book that had different topics and clear explanations about taildraggers and found a very well written, organized and clear book. I would highly recommend for people looking for good advise, technics, procedures and general information for taildraggers to buy this book, it’s presented in a easy way to understand and clear ideas.

Prior to transitioning to the Austflight/Maxair Drifter, I found the book very educational and helpful. The items/topics are relevant and, although not a replacement to actual training, this book can help the novice pilot understand the behavior of the taildragger. Furthermore, the book can help prepare for an actual taildragger flight by informing the reader what to expect and how to react in situations peculiar only to the taildragger. I know I have become a safer pilot just by understanding how taildraggers work, thanks to this book.

I bought this book to do some studying prior to my tailwheel endorsement. This book is very well written, and explains all the forces working against tail dragger, and how they are different from a tri-gear. If you fly, or want to fly, taildraggers, you will benefit from this book.

Exactly as described when I ordered. Easy to read, and very motivating. I highly recommend this volume to any pilot that understands a continued education in aeronautical subjects like this is simply one not to pass up.

This is a must read for all Taildragger pilots. "Plane" English and simple illustrations.

A must for the future pilots

It has some good stuff but has been packed out with general flying information. If you were looking to do your PPL on a tailwheel aircraft then this would certainly supplement your standard training material. If you are looking to gain experience on a tailwheel aircraft then this is very basic and will most likely tell you what you already know. The last part of the book gives specific information about tailwheel aircraft you may come across today. If you have read the Flight Manual of the aircraft you are going to fly, then there is nothing added by this book.

Essential reading

Auch wenn es viele Fotos und informative Zeichnungen in diesem Buch gibt - man sollte der englischen Sprache mächtig sein, wenn man sich dieses Buch kauft. Für mich war es eine sehr kurzweilige Lektüre und obwohl ich in meinem Leben über 13000 Flugstunden angesammelt habe, habe ich viel aus diesem Buch gelernt.Die erste Hälfte das Buches befasst sich sehr detailliert mit den Eigenarten eines Spornradflugzeuges, in der zweiten Hälfte werden -teilweise sehr interessante- Flugzeugtypen mit ihren speziellen Eigenschaften beschrieben. Dort hat mir eine Beschreibung der Piper PA-18 gefehlt, einem sehr weit verbreiteten "Taildragger".Ansonsten: Ein Muss für jeden Spornradflieger.

Ein sehr anschauliches und sympathisches Lehr- und Referenzbuch zum Umgang mit Spornrad-Flugzeugen. In einem allgemeinen Teil geht der Autor anhand von anschaulichen Erläuterungen und hervorragenden Skizzen auf die Grundlagen der Thematik ein. Im zweiten Teil des Buches wird eine Auswahl von einzelnen Spornrad-Flugzeugtypen und deren Besonderheiten vorgestellt, vom UL bis zur DC 3. Alle Bilder und Graphiken schwarzweiß, dennoch ein sehr gutes Layout.
