Observations after months of hard use in a karate dojo.
Overall these are decent mats. They're easy to install and they give the right amount of support. We do martial arts on them, so they definitely get used pretty hard. For the price they were our best option.Pros:- Affordable- Easy to install- Perfect amount of cushioning- They are the colors that we wantedCons:- They will move around if you don't have them firmly secured to the floor. Even though we went wall to wall with them, they still shift around quite a bit.- They damage easily. Anything other than a flat bare foot will leave cuts and dents. There are several cuts just from toenails alone (we do martial arts barefoot).- They make the bottoms of your feet filthy. This is my biggest complaint. We keep our dojo very clean, but no matter how many times we clean the mats, they always leave the bottoms of our feet coated with a sticky layer of residue. It comes off easily with a wet paper towel, but it's a pain to have to clean your feet before putting your socks and shoes back on every single time you come off of the mat.

Great product - with a Warning
These look great and work great ... a WARNING though.I put them over a really nice wood laminate floor to protect the floor from a treadmill I put on top. They protected the floor from the treadmill superbly... but because they weren't moved for a year, moisture from Florida humidity got trapped underneath the pads, and because they don't breathe, the floor beneath got warped and discolored. So the floor needs to be replaced anyway. Se la vie.I'd say the wooden floor problem wouldn't be a factor if, occasionally, the mats can be picked up and the floor cleaned and dried.

Great Mats BUT
We ordered these in gray for my son to use under his thomas the train set on our wood floors in order to stop the dents that are made from dropping the trains, to not hear the sound of him dropping the trains and to save his knees from of hours of play on the wood floors. They are fantastic. He can easily put them together by himself (he's 5) and carry them. Plus the borders are great as it makes the edges look really nice. We are hoping once the issue below gets resolved that we'll also use them in his room which has carpet so that the train set up can be used there by creating a flat surface where his toys don't fall over easily when he builds. I don't know if I would recommend using them on carpet if you were doing say activities that required a ton of movement that needs a stable floor but for our purpose it will be fine.BUT they smell. Granted I am way overly sensitive to all smells. They smell like a dirty shoe/rubber/smoke that unfortunately gives me an instant headache. I realize that things like this sometimes have an off gas time period which I am hoping is of short duration. We put them in the garage at night at first and then aired out our house to get rid of the smell and my headache. But in hopes to speed up the process of ventilating them we have moved them outside to our deck. They smell a little bit less now (its been 3 days) but I think time is unfortunately the best way to fully get rid of the smell. For those worried, my husband does not smell anything and has a very very slight headache when around them. My son doesn't seem to have either even though he has been on them for ours now. Here's hoping that it goes quickly as we really love the mats.

Will Not Stand Up Against Demonic Cat
I got the four tile set because I only have a small play area in our living room, and this works great. Just firm enough but also a good cushion from hardwood floors. The ONLY hitch in all this is that i inherited this demon spawn of a cat whom shall be referred to as "satan's mistress", and this thing took it upon herself to claw the bejeezus outta this. Needless to say it didnt hold up and shreds very easily. Good thing these are cheap, I'll probably be buying more.

Great for baby playpens!
We purchased these mats to use in our baby's playpen area since we have hardwood floors. I was able to easily cut them to size using a razor knife and taped them down to my floors using residue-free carpet/hardwood double sided tape. We laid down an extra foam mat on top of the foam puzzle flooring because it is pretty firm when laid on top of hardwood. Our baby loves it and it wipes clean easily with baby wipes.NOTE: The mats "scar" easily with your fingernail and may not be good enough quality to use for gym flooring or a high traffic area. They work well for my intended purpose but I deducted a star because the quality could be better.

They have been great for milder workouts
Bought these to serve as a floor in a workout area. They have been great for milder workouts, but workouts which require a lot of lateral movement may start to pull the pieces apart. It has been beneficial to put a non-slip pad underneath them as they will slide on hardwood or other smooth surfaces. I have only used them a few times on carpet and they didn't do that great, mostly because they are soft and bend - better than the carpet, but a harder mat might be better. As with any surface, they can get dirty, but are easy to clean. Swiffers and similar things don't work to well because of the uneven surface, so a mop or towel by hand is necessary. This isn't a big deal as they dry quick and clean easy. Along the same vain, they aren't too slippery when wet, but I wouldn't do a workout on them until they are dry.Don't leave heavy items such as dumbbells on them too long, or they will create indents which don't go away. I've left dumbbells on them and as long as I don't leave them in the same place for more than a few days in a row, it hasn't been a problem.
