Santa Claus Postcard Book Paperback – October 15, 2012

All of these postcard images come from illustrations that appeared in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. None of them are dated or have attributions, which doesn't detract from them. It just means that the images are not copyrighted.All show a benevolent Santa Claus, though a couple predate the version that has solidified in the American mind: white hair, beard & mustache, red suit with white fur trim and usually wire-rim glasses. In case you didn't know, this version of Santa Claus was popularized by the illustrations of political cartoonist Thomas Nast – I think his first well-distributed picture of this Santa Claus was around 1863. So probably a couple of the images used on this postcard set date from before then.One unusual postcard has a spectacle-less Santa holding a martini glass in one hand and a lit cigar in the other. He has a merry face, but it is a little red and looks suspiciously like W.C. Fields.Another of my favorites shows Santa Claus celebrating with an early version of Uncle Sam. (An Uncle Sam who is tall, slender and gray haired & bearded was popularized around WWI.)Each card measures a little less each way than 6 ½ " x 4 ¾", and is perforated on one long end. Each card tears out fairly easily if you use them in order. It is nearly impossible to take one out cleanly from the middle of the book. So I took all the cards out at once, and store them loose with a rubber band within the book. The cardstock used is a little heavier than usual, but these postcards only require postcard mailing rates.All in all, a nice set from Laughing Elephant, keeping in mind that all the images are "vintage".Happy Reader

A wonderful collection of postcards!!! I bought this book for my "Postcrossing Addiction" and loved it! The recipients of the postcards really enjoyed the images. Made of sturdy card stock with lots of room for writing your message AND the address of where it's going to! Cards are easily detachable! A great value for the price!

I should have read the reviews first. The description does not indicate these are actual postcards to use and I thought it was a book about the postcards with illustrations and information about the cards instead of a book of actual cards. Not what I was looking for.

Bought last minute to send out as Christmas cards. Some of the cards had cute Santa pictures, others were a bit weird looking. I didn't send out the weird looking ones

I liked all but one post card in the book. They came out cleanly and easily.

Love the postcards. I've used some to decorate a tree. Used the mini clothes pins n clip them on s jute line.

Everyone who received one of these postcards for Christmas loved it!

Belle qualité, belles couleurs mais attention : format plus grand que le 10cm par 15 traditionnel ! De plus, elles sont très fines et se détachent mal donc risquent d'être abimés.

普通のハガキのサイズだと思って切手を貼ってポストに入れたら、料金不足で送り先の受取人が１０円払わされて大恥をかいてしまいました。自分の注意不足とはいえハガキのサイズについてここに書いておかねばと。ポストカード自体はレトロなクリスマスカードの数々で見ているだけでも楽しいです。
