Thermostat for those without a split system
Do you have the situation when you're up stairs bedrooms are about 10-15 deg. warmer than the lower floors because you don' t have a separate HVAC control for the various floors? Well, this thermostat addresses that situation. You can program the thermostat to utilize the remote temperature sensor unit that you can place just about anywhere. The way this works is, you program the thermostat to use the remote sensor (up to two can be installed) to control the temperature setting of the thermostat. In fact, the thermostat can use the average temperature between the remote units and its own temperature sensor (if that's what you wish to do). There are lots of capability and the unit works pretty well. The instruction manual however could be MUCH better. The descriptions of the features, especially the programming capability is not good. I'm technical and it took me some time to understand how to make the thermostat to utilize the remote sensor! The wiring diagram is way too small too - I had to blow it up using a copy machine. There were thermostat programming features that were simply not described in the manual - some trial by error will be needed. However, once you work through all this, hooking it up and making things work is pretty easy. One other point, the display is back lit but not the buttons - so, if the thermostat is in a dark spot like mine, keep a flashlight handy. Overall though, it is a great unit and a game changer for me.On future capability... the unit has 4 programming time slots - this is pretty standard where you can have up to 4 operation ranges per day. Given the additional capability of this unit, it would benefit with more slots eg. 6.UPDATE: I find that this unit is not reliable. I have tried over four units and they all failed (I did like the concept). Some failed out of the packaging. Essentially, the console will reboot/initialize itself. It remembers the setting except for the time. This means the unit will not work until the time is reset. Real problem if you are out of the house for any length of time. Would NOT buy it. Possibly why the manufacturer has discontinued it.

Remote Sensor didn't work, but I fixed it, THEN IT DIED 8 mo later. NO SUPPORT FROM HUNTER
10/21/19 UPDATE: After 8 Months Thermostat stopped receiving from both remote thermometers. Next it started rebooting daily. Hunter sent me to the supplier (OceanAire) THAT SENT ME BACK TO HUNTER. Hunter had me contact OceanAire a different way. OceanAire promised to get back to me, but NEVER did. A week later went back to Hunter, who said they were escalating the ticket. Five days later, still NOTHING!! Looks like I'll have to go to Amazon to get my money back.Original review:If you program the wall unit to use the remote sensor and you see the thermometer with the number blinking, that means the wall unit is NOT receiving from the remote. I could get the wall unit to receive from the remote if I held the remote about 2 inches away (it would lose the signal if I moved the remote farther away). The number would stop blinking on the wall unit and the wall unit started displaying the temperature that the remote showed. By accident, I laid the remote next to some wire and the wall unit started receiving from the remote. To make a permanent fix: I laid the wire on top of the battery and put the covers back on. (That's right, no soldering or physical connection!) I think the built in antenna is not connected. The signal is induced into the part of the wire inside the remote (the same way a transformer works) and the outside 12" act as an antenna. Now it works great.

Just what I wanted
This product was just what I wanted. At night we only wanted to heat the bedroom with a small space heater and let the rest of the house stay cool. We programmed the unit to regulate via the remote sensor during sleeping hours and now the furnace keeps the rest of the house cool while our room stays toasty with the small monitor heater. Before it was a balancing act to keep the room regulated, then the furnace would kick on and the room would get way too warm. Many people have claimed the unit is very hard to program. It is virtually the same as other programmable thermostats I have used. The most important part is to write down what you want the program to do before you start programming. Then take it 1 day at a time. The only confusion I had was setting up the remote sensor. At first I could not select the symbol for "T1" (the auxillary sensor) for my nighttime program hours. The unit came pre-programmed as if the extra sensor was to read outside temperature. You cannot program the furnace based on outside temperature or it would run constantly! I had to go to the options menu and change the sensor settings. I changed the outdoor temp sensor channel to -- (meaning no outdoor sensor) and that the external "T1" sensor was channel 15 (the channel on the display of my auxilary sensor). If you have 2 or 3 extra sensors, then you have to set each temperature to the corresponding channel on the various sensors. After I set the sensor up correctly, it allowed me to select "T1" for my nighttime program.Again, decide what you want to do before diving into the programming. What worked best for me was using the "everyday" programming mode to set up all of the days the same. Then I went back through each day and made small adjustments based on our schedules. It works like a charm and at this price, there is no other comparison to it. Even a standard 5-2 programmable thermostat will cost more! Kudos to MarkDownAlley for good pricing and fast delivery!
