Time and Oak Whiskey Element Brown Wood Spirit Aging Stick

Great additional flavor. Not worth the price.
Great addition to making my own Whiskey flavors on otherwise tasteless whiskeys. They are not quite worth the price though.

Great product!
Have loved these since I found them in 2014 locally in Portland. Fantastic owner and they truly care about the product—and it shows! Such a fun gift

Does work, wish it were cheaper
I'm somewhere between 3 and 4 stars on this. After reading a review on gizmodo I had written these off, but decided to give em a try when they were a gold box buy on amazon. I used them on two Trader Joe's spirits, their house brand bourbon and their flannhaligan (sp?) scotch. The house bourbon certainly didn't get worse, but I wasn't as sold on the results. I left it in about week, with little tastes every day compared to a flask I had put aside. It smoothed it out a bit, but also added a noticeable oaky taste that seemed to over power things on the front end. I think the charred would have worked better for that spirit. It might have moved it from a 6.5-6.7, but for the price, in the future I'd just get a bottle of something else. For the scotch however, the difference was noticeable and fantastic. This is a bottle of scotch that is about 18 bucks at trader joes and it became something probably worth easily twice or three times the price. It took off the edge in all the best ways. It brought out some of the salt sea notes while still leaving the peats and smokes. It really took away the astringent qualities. In a taste test with some aficionados they unanimously preferred the Trader Joes with week plus stick to the Laphroig quarter cask. I'm not sure I'd go that far as I was the sole hold out thinking the laphroig was better (but id been sampling the TJ's all week so could easily identify it,) but I was still delighted by the results. The big question about these sticks for me is if the price justifies the results. Is it really better than some Oak chips or other wooden pieces you can by from a hardware store? I just don't know. If they had one that gave me a port finish or something real special and amazing it might be worth the current price. The original flavor though is a little more debatable. If they were about half the cost, maybe 3 for 10 or included some charr or sherry finish they'd be much easier to swallow and worth the current going rate.

So-so
There was a _slight_ improvement in overall taste. Basically, my $15 bottle of bourbon was transformed into a $20 bottle of bourbon.I'm glad I tried it, but it's unlikely I will buy it again.

They work but results depend on Whiskey and other factors.
A few months ago, I experimented with these sticks by adding one to a bottle of Deanston "Virgin Oak" Scotch (An inexpensive, un-chill filtered, 46% ABV, Highland Single Malt Scotch). I tied a thread to the stick so I could easily remove it when I wanted to. I left another bottle (purchased from the same case on the same day) unaltered so that I could continue to compare the two. The best taste was after the second day. In a nutshell, what the Whiskey Element did was that it dramatically removed the harsh, peculiar tastes of the FINISH. The arrival and overall character of the Deanston did not change dramatically. On the third day, I gave the bottle with the oak stick a good shake. This was a mistake. Doing so imparted some of those nasty flavors back into the Scotch. In summary, be gentle, don't shake the bottle violently and pay particular attention to the finish and how it is affected. I also tried the Whiskey elements in some other young Scotches and Bourbons with varied results. They raised the caliber of the Deanston considerably but results with other Whiskey's was more varied and not always entirely positive (though they always affected the taste). Lastly, a few days ago, I took two previously used Whiskey Elements and put them in another new bottle of Deanston for a couple days. This time, rather than using a thread to remove them, I simply poured the contents into an old, rinsed out, Rye bottle, which left the Whiskey elements in the, now empty, Deanston bottle. These two previously used oak sticks still did their magic and turned the inexpensive Deanston into a very tasty bottle! Again, they removed the unpleasant flavors in the "finish". Well worth some playing around with. You will learn some things and enjoy their effects most of the time.

A Very Impressive Product That I Would Strongly Recommend
Time and Oak's Whiskey Elements is a very impressive combination of science and technology. The laser cut "grooves" in the cured oak allow for increased surface area for your whiskey to come in contact with the cured oak, and intern rapidly improve your whiskey. While I cannot say I am an experienced whiskey connoisseur, I did notice a difference in my whiskey after adding the Whiskey Element to my bottle. By the end of the 3 week period (Time and Oak does not recommend keeping the Element in for longer) my whiskey was smoother than anything I've ever tasted before. I would recommend a trial run to find that sweet spot for your particular tastes. (For me, it was roughly two and a half weeks in) I am very impressed with this product and would strongly recommend it.The reason for the four stars over the five is because of one problem. I keep my whiskey in the bottle that is comes in. With that said, I have found it near impossible, if not fully impossible, to remove the Whiskey Element from the bottle after the three week period. if Time and Oak were to slightly extend one end but make the extension thinner, I feel that would be an amazing addition. If you use a decanter with a fairly large opening at the top, you probably wont have much of a problem. You definitely won't have a problem if you finish your bottle of whiskey within three weeks.[For anyone who was curious about the bottle I have tested the Whiskey Element on, it was Crown Royal's Regal Apple. This already smooth whiskey became even smoother, but I couldn't get the Element out of the bottle.]
