Dunno but ask the question is this axe sanctioned. Just bought it two months ago and the local WATL official says this axe can not be used because WATL has changed the rules and the axe size has changed. The axe head required is smaller. I am stuck with an axe I can use only for practice. Changed the sizes on the target also.

Q: blade not sharp- do i have to get it sharpened?

Almost all axe throwing blades and axes in general do not come sharp. It's a huge hazard for the safety of employees during the manufacturing process so it's never as sharp as a knife. You do not have to completely sharpen the blade for the axe to stick to the target. But some of our top throwers like to sharpen them using a grinder, make them very sharp so it sticks easier to the boards while not throwing as hard (so your aim is better by reducing the strength). The top throwers in the world do sharpen all axes they purchase (including ours). If you're starting out, you don't have to get it sharpened, but as you improve, it will help hone in your skills.

Q: Does it come with a sheath?

It came with a plastic blade cover, but did not have a sheath.

Q: how much does the head weigh?

800 Grams is not 1.75lbs. 800 grams is 1.7637 lbs. However, most NATF locations accept heads up to 800 grams even though the rules state that they must be 1.75 or less, and WATL accepts heads up to 2 lbs so this would still work for both.
