Perfect for dogs or most animals
It works, easy to install, doesn't leak.We use it for ducks and they really trash this thing and get it dirty. The drain hole makes a huge difference when cleaning it.For a dog this would be an awesome outdoor watering dish.

Solid build
The bowl is very sturdy. I have two Husky puppies that try their best to eat it, claw it off the wall, or "dig for water" in it. But it is holding up with no signs of wear. I did have an issue with the valve not always shutting off. Rather than mess with it, I bought replacements of a very similar but not identical type, and swap it out. No issues now.

Good bowl but bad drain plug
Mine came with a low profile plug that had threads like a bolt-not tapered pipe threads. This, combined with the thin gasket, leaked from the plug. I replaced the plug with a 0.5” pvc pipe plug treated with Teflon tape and all is well. I also adjusted the float up to make the water in the bowl deeper. The stars not given are related to the plug as the drain plug provided to me was not the proper fit and the little gasket underperforms.

Pets Love this waterer!
It was easy to install. Works very well with a rain barrel to keep pets in water in the hot dry summer!

Does not sit flat
my mistake, I got the dog bowl so I could use this system. This one can be mounted on a wall, barn or wood structure.

Why plastic?
I got in a hurry, not the sellers fault, but it arrived and it's okay I have a stainless steel version very much like this one that I paid barely more money for. The problem with plastic is any scratches are a habitat for all sorts of bacteria... And that's not a big deal for most animals. But this just can't ever come close to the longevity of a stainless steel trough which won't scratch and create larger quantities of--potentially infectious bacteria... I mean you have to clean it and that's a higher risk if you already have a cut or something... You know what sucks? Staff infection. Sure you can get that from anywhere but... Just pay a few bucks more for a stainless steel trough. I'll keep this one and replace it eventually.
