AMAZING book
I read this book cover to cover last night. I could not put it down. This book is full of emotions. Monty Roberts is a true genus. This book does not just talk about the one horse "Shy Boy" but gives stories of a few of the other horses that he has worked with. Monty is known the world over as the man who talks to horses. He created the method of gentling horses. He talks to the animals in their own language. In this book Monty goes out to the wild of America and tames a wild horse. It takes him 3 days to be able to separate a wild horse from its herd, get it to follow him around, train it to accept a saddle bridle and rider. This is remarkable. In the traditional method of breaking a horse the horse is fearful of humans. Breaking a horse takes 6 weeks according to Monty. Monty demonstrates all over the world how he can get a horse to trust him, fallow him, take a saddle bridle and rider, in only 30 minuets. Remember that we are talking about completely wild horses. This book will be well worn soon as I am sure that I will read it SOOOOO much.

Great followup to The Man Who Listens to Horses
This is the perfect book to follow up The Man Who Listens to Horses. It's like an extended case study in the techniques of "joining" with horses (not "breaking") that Roberts discovered, evolved, and refined over his years working with horses, a deep lesson in compassion and common sense. This book can stand on its own, but the rich history and back story of his earlier autobiographical work makes this account that much more meaningful. As always, I am impressed by the author's clarity of vision, fortitude, and sheer humanity. A wonderful story, and the beautiful photographic record makes it all the more delightful.

Monty Roberts' Dream Horse
I recommend that you read Monty Roberts "The Man Who Listens to Horses" whether you read it before or after "Shy Boy..." Having read Monty's earlier book first the story of Shy Boy meant so much more to me. To read that, at the age of 62 with a bad back and not-so-young anymore, Monty relived one of the best times of his life gentling a wild Mustang as he did as a kid, but for a BBC Documentary as well. The gentling and training went better than he expected and he created a friendly and willing partner out of a wild horse. Not only that, the BBC special and the book continues to change the lives of many people and horses around the world as Monty's way of working with horses becomes known and accepted. The book itself contains spectacular photography of Monty, Shy Boy, other horses, and the beautiful country filmed in the BBC special. It is a heartwarming and inspiring story to say the least.

Beautifully written and full of gorgeous photography
Beautifully written and full of gorgeous photography, this book is about Monty Roberts who, at the tender age of 62, using his own method of horse gentling that he terms "joining up" to get a Nevada Mustang to trust him and bond with him. While being filmed by theBBC, Monty follows the mustang he dubs Shy Boy in the wild until the horse finally stops being leary and then Monty gets this horse to accept a bridle and a saddle and a rider - all within the spaceof about 4 days and all in the wild - no round pens, no fences! Monty Roberts is a pioneer of gentling (as opposed to "breaking") a horse so that the horsebecomes a willing partner. He even tests this bond later in the book. a must read for horse lovers!

Great and true horse story.
This is a book full of pictures of the taming and gentling of the mustang Shy Boy. It is a true story of how Monty Roberts went out and in a very short time gentled this wild mustang named Shy Boy. People were suspicious, and he went out and took Shy Boy back to his "herd" and let him have his freedom. But Shy Boy went back to Monty indicating that it wasn't force and brutality that kept them together. There is a DVD of this too, and it is great too.

Beautiful Pictorial of Relationship between Man & Horse
In this book, noted California "horse whisperer" Monty Roberts chronicles how he uses his "Join Up" method of horse gentling on a mustang in the wild. Roberts relates how he began studying communication among horses as a young boy and eventually used that information to begin working with the animals. Roberts, along with photographer Christopher Dydyk, creates a beautiful chronicle of how the horse he calls Shy Boy comes to trust people and become a valuable part of ranch life. The climax of the story is when Roberts releases Shy Boy to the free-range herd where the horse had been living, to see how well the "Join Up" method has worked ... and Shy Boy comes home. This is a beautiful book for anyone who loves horses and believes that gentleness and understanding are the key to relating to both animals and humans.
