The Bridges of Madison County: Vocal Selections - Vocal Line with Piano Accompaniment

Jason Robert Brown has really outdone himself with this sweeping, moving, Tony-winning score. While his trademark dense, rhythmic piano accompaniment style still finds its way in sometimes, this score as a whole steps away from that. Instead Brown finds other musical ways to access the emotional core of Francesca and Robert's story and the world they live in. Some of these arrangements look surprisingly simple on paper (the upside being that they're more accessible to less advanced pianists than some of his other compositions), but don't underestimate them - capturing the emotion of each song on the piano will keep you busy enough, and challenge your technique in a different way.If you're getting this book as a female vocalist, you will be rewarded with songs written for Kelli O'Hara's stunning semi-operatic soprano voice. This show is a wonderful reminder that not all modern musical theatre repertoire requires belting. Robert's songs are in a sort of high baritone range - it gets kind of high for a baritone without a strong upper range (up to G4), and reaches a bit low at times for a tenor (down to B2). But it's exciting material to work with, both for solos and male-female duets.I'm very pleased with the selections included in this book and their arrangements (done by JRB himself). "Look At Me," a song I particularly like, is omitted, but it is available separately as digital sheet music, along with "Something From A Dream," another song left out of this collection. For the songs that are in this book, any changes made were primarily to cut out the ensemble choral parts and make the songs function well as standalone pieces; otherwise everything is pretty faithful to the show, or at least to the cast recording.There is a lot to like about this music, and this book gives you a way to make it come alive.

I was extremely excited to receive this score of music in the mail. I love the music from this work and I’m singing one of the songs in my vocal lessons. However, I was under the impression, from reading many comments and the details of the product, that it came with a CD accompaniment track. Unfortunately, it doesn’t, and I really was looking forward to using it for my vocal lessons that happen to be online at the moment. Other than that, the shipping was excellent and the book is great. I would just like to make sure that others don’t misunderstand what all is included like I did.

It is a shame that this show closed so quickly on broadway. This score is not only beautiful, it is beautifully rendered on this sumptuous CD. Kelly O'hara, one of Broadway's finest Mezzo's and most brilliant actors, shines in this country-rock-opera score. Steven Pasquale, an exceptional Lyric Baritone plays her love interest and shares beautifully in her duets. This is a love story, no doubt, and it is clearly reflected not only in the lyrics, but in every beat of music. Give it a try, you will not disappointed.

For Jason Robert Brown music the piano accompaniment is pretty easy. I already used a song for an audition and the pianist could sight read it fine. Great music, great musical, great music book, great buy! If you need this music you wont be disappointed.

I saw the show and TOTALLY loved it! Kelli O'Hara's and Steven Pasquale's voices just melt into each other. It's now one of my favorite albums. The Jason Robert Brown's music is beautiful. Story is a little weak, but you won't know that from the CD. It's BEAUTIFUL!

Great book for both singers and accompanists.

Beautiful musical... a pretty good distillation of the accompaniment required to enjoy the show from your fingertips! There were a couple more ornaments in the original cast recording I was hoping to see notated but on the whole this is faithful and is a very good arrangement. Shame it doesn't have State Road 21 though, that song is my jam.

A new musical returning to the older style of musical by this prolific young composer. Very good.
