Works great! Highly Recommend.
This product works great to improve the audio on my Go Pro Hero 8 Black. It allows you to plug in a microphone and charge via USB C at the same time - critical for my YouTube videos. I can now connect my Rode wireless lapel mic for much improved audio. One thing to know: Powering up the GoPro by voice does not seem to work with any external mic, but once powered up, all voice commands work fine.

A good alternative to the Media Mod for Hero 10
Since the Media Mod has issues making a good connection and overheats the GoPro Hero 10, this one works well along side a camera door with a flap cover for the USB-C port. It basically provides the same functions as the media mod, but costs a little less and actually makes a connection. Here are some negatives about this product:1. You'll either need to run your camera without a side door or get a side door that has a pass-through port for the USB-C connection. So this will be an extra cost.2. The media mod would display a level indicator on the screen (one of the only ways to know if it's actually connected). This unit does not display anything. That is a nice feature to know how much noise you are receiving along with the audio.3. This is more of a complaint about GoPro's product strategy. Why do I need to spend so much money to attach an external microphone? It's ridiculous. But I suppose that is a complaint about why this product needs to exist rather than the product itself.Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and will use it while trying to sell the media mod that it replaced.

First one failed after 20 hours of use
I gave this product 3 stars because I had to buy a second one after the first one failed after only 20 hours of use. I do not know the reason for sure, but my signal chain looked like this:Phantom Power (48VDC) -> Mic (Condenser) -> XLR-to-3.5mm adapter -> GoPro Mic AdapterWhat I do not know as I write this is whether the 48V Phantom Power was passed all the way through to the GoPro Mic Adaptor. It should not have mattered, assuming the GoPro Mic Adapter has a 50VDC DC-blocking capacitor on its input. However I can find no GoPro documentation that indicates this basic requirement of any microphone input. Actually, since the mic input is actually stereo, there would have to be TWO 50VDC blocking capacitors in there. I'm suspicious because in the GoPro world, they sometimes use much lower voltages (e.g 5VDC, 12VDC) for phantom power because those are the voltages available with USB-C. But 48VDC is the global standard for high-end condenser microphones so they should have anticipated the need for a higher DC blocking capacitor voltage rating.
