An ok-ish introduction on commodities
The book is useful for providing an overview of each commodity sub-sector (genesis, main characteristics, who are the main producers/consumers, etc.) in addition to a few trading anecdotes based on the author's experience. This is the type of content I would expect to find for free on Wikipedia or something equivalent, but it is packaged in a convenient fashion with reasonably up-to-date figures and anecdotes. The book does however not provide any useful information for trading commodities - only very high level, philosophical guidelines. I would still recommend reading this book if you want to get a basic introduction on commodities, as the price is not too expensive compared to other books I found on Amazon.

A Great Guide
A concise and practical guide that doesn't overwhelm the reader with technical jargon. The author offers many examples to aid in understanding the meaning of otherwise complicated terminology. After reading it, I understand why today's prices aren't necessarily the same as next month's or those further out in time. Very, very useful.

A Broad Overview (with some extras that could have been left out) 4 Stars from me
I liked it, but it is a broad overview (with some extra stories that could have been left out). Andrew Hecht is a very experienced trader and I appreciate him sharing his knowledge. I hope is next book deals with set ups.

Very interesting broad overview. Light on investment theory, but good on commodity history and description.
Good primer to get very broad handle on all commodity markets. You also get a little bit of technical and fundamental understanding. I was hooping for some more specific investment insights. But good book!

Comprehensive!
Having come from a commodity futures background, I bought this book because of the reputation as a great trader that Andy Hecht had. In this book he gives a true insight into how people should view commodities when considering many different trading avenues. The book is peppered with many real life stories that the author experienced in his career. These stories help to give a deeper understanding about how commodities pricing affects companies and economies. The book is defined by chapters that work as great lessons to digest. Written in terms that make it easier for the average person to enjoy, I recommend it for every investor.

VERY BASIC INFORMATION NOT RELATED TO ACTUAL TRADING
I found this book to be very disappointing. It went over some basic background information, but never covered any actual trades that show how to make money trading commodities. This book is not worth the price and the title is deceptive. if your are looking you're looking for some generic information that you could probably find on the commodities Google search faster and without the price and time spent reading this book, then go ahead and buy this book.
