This is the only book I've found that covers this gigantic subject
There are many excellent books out there that cover these subjects individually in more detail. This book presents an overview of everything. The print is small. Words are not wasted. Photographs are second rate. I get a sense of accuracy in what he is saying. It is a book for people academically interested in whatever he is talking about. It is not like a Life Magazine publication. However, in no way is it boring and every sentence is providing new information. I do not consider myself expert in the fields he covers, but I can say that I never found anything wrong. Nor did he repeat popular misconceptions. Menninger even discusses the mind-set of the people creating these symbols.

Number Mystery
Because numbers have both a physical reference and a spiritual mystery, they are fascinating. This book helps me understand the meaning of number both historically and currently.

A no frills, no fluffy bunny explanation of number theory
If you have a serious interest the theories and cultural symbolism of numbers, this is a solid and still accurate resource. Though originally published in 1969, this book is a well-researched and clear overview of the ideas and concepts behind numerology and number symbolism. Unlike most stuff published today, this books isn't some "solve all your problems with numbers!" collection of nonsense, but an insightful outlook on the origins of number symbolism.

Very in-depth and detailed history of number words and symbols
This is of course a widely acknowledged classic and quite rightly, embodying as it does a considerable amount of detailed research, although there are a few places where the author's conjecture has subsequently been shown to be slightly off the mark. Also, some of the language makes uncomfortable reading today, as might be expected from a book so old that talks about different cultures around the world. The writing style is unnecessarily wordy but not unreadable so. Overall, fascinating, interesting, useful and revealing.
