Inappropriate language in a book listed for grades 3-7
We thought this would be a great, fun way for our kids to learn some history. The book is listed for grades 3-7 but contains completely inappropriate language. (See attached photo). When you publish a book full of a children’s toy (Lego) and plan to include this type of text, the publisher should be clear about that and issue a warning.Very disappointed as this was a birthday gift for my 7yo.

This book is not appropriate for children
Buyer beware. I ordered this book for my eight year old grandson who loves legos. Online, it appeared to be a children's book full of photos of lego characters enacting scenes from the American and French Revolutions. However, the book's language and some of the subject matter it is very inappropriate for children. For example, quotes in the text refer to Marie Antoinette as a "whore" and her neck as a "f*****g tart's". The text in at least two places describes the mutilation of two separate female bodies, also mentions rape and masturbation, as well as other content and vocabulary not appropriate for children. The vocabulary used is often too difficult for most children. We will not be keeping this book.

Revolutionary
Show and substance, creativity and content, infuse this work by LEGO maestro, Brendan Powell Smith. I was introduced to his original storytelling through The Brick Bible series. That work told traditional tales through a unique and less-explored lens by highlighting the depravity and barbarism of the Old Testament, as well as some of the bizarre prophesies of the New Testament. Smith is an artist who tells stories off the beaten path of our sacred totems.Smith displays that individualistic and idealist streak in this work, too, extolling the American and French Revolutions while simultaneously exhorting their sad, twisted underbelly that included racism, vigilantism, and colonialism on both shores. It’s an excellent primer on our nation’s founding that balances glorifying the birth of a country without also glorifying war and its brutal consequences. The French Revolution feels less inspired thanks to its astonishing barbarity, but both historical events are beautifully rendered using only LEGO figures and pieces accompanied by a detailed, but succinct narration. This is an excellent companion to any school-based learning on the American and French Revolutions – especially for students who appreciate or require a more visual historical storytelling style. The storyboards are more colorful, vibrant, descriptive, and familiar than the Brick Bible panels. Another spectacular work of conceptual art by a gifted illustrator.

Nice book
Like other's said, this is a great book, but not so much about the American Revolution. I wish they would have shown the different battles, Congress, etc.

Unique coffee table book
As a kid who grew up with Legos as a favorite toy, this is an awesome throwback to that childhood. Very cool history lessons presented with legos. A must have for any parent with kids who love legos

Awesome!
Pros -Creative "illustrations."Comprehensive writing.Accurate.Entertaining.Con -Mostly advertised as it being about the American Revolution, when in fact, half of it is devoted to the French Revolution. However, there's nothing wrong with that other than the fact that you might be disappointed by there not being more info on the American Revolution.

Interesting tidbits of history about the American and French revolutions ...
Interesting tidbits of history about the American and French revolutions with LEGO scenes that keep it interesting. Some sections are inappropriate for younger readers due to battlefield violence, and off-battlefield murder and rape. I chose to read through this with my kids, and skip over some of the portions I was uncomfortable sharing with them.

wonderful
An absolute wonder--mesmerizing for adults and children. (A note to parents: in spite of the scenes being rendered only in Lego pieces, some moments manage to be a little gory.) This Lego series of books is wonderful.

Perfektes Geschenk!
Es war ein Geschenk an einen AFOL, der sich auch für diese Epoche interessiert. Ein absoluter Erfolg! Total detaillierte Szenen und dabei noch ein bisschen Geschichte.
