Technivorm vs: Redline MK1
Likes: The looks, ease of use, functionality, controllable steep time (parking brake) and, of course, the spray temp at 185-200 degrees F. Dislikes: For $110.00 I paid for this, I have nothing to complain about. I was thinking of buying a $300.00 one made in Denmark and I was so happy to find this one from Amazon.com and watched all the reviews on Redline MK1 on YouTubed. How it is used: I was experimenting on how to get the best brew on my coffee techniques. I use pour-over brewing and have experimented on different types of filters. I chose to use the paper filter. I used different grinds from fine to coarse. I thought about the principle of filtrations, steeping, drip rates, etc. I thought about my Aero Press and my french press. Here is what I did and discovered: I boiled 400ml of water in a 2 cup Pyrex measuring cup to 205 degrees F. I poured 25 grams of my ground coffee in the measuring cup and stirred it for about 1 minute and let it steep for 4 minutes. After 4 min timed, I poured the whole mixture into my pour-over filter (Hario V60, 03 with paper filter). This is the best coffee brew I ever experienced. , No bitterness. It tastes like AeroPress brewed coffee. Fine or coarse grinds do not seem to affect the taste. Just like the AeroPress, also. I know this may upset quite a bit of people in the industry. On this Redline MK1, I set the lever to park. The filter basket could hold more than 400ml. This is perfect. Once the basket is full. I stir the mix for 30-60 secs and let it soak for 4 minutes and then switch the parking lever to open. Wow, it works. I'm sorry to say this, I am returning my Hario V60 stand and the ss V60, 02 dripper and my temperature regulated gooseneck kettle back to Amazon. Update: 05-10-19 I returned the Redline Mk1 that I reviewed above back to the seller: Honestly, I really missed my Redline MK1 and after a couple of weeks ago I purchased another one and also to compare it to my newly acquired low mileage Technivorm Moccamaster. I have always wanted a "real" Technivorm Moccamaster, not a clone or wannabe. This may sound weird to most readers. My Toyota 86, 2018 is orange in color and I love it and orange is one of my favorite colors and everyone likes my orange car. Honestly, I have never seen a Moccamaster and personally use it. I came close to ordering an orange Moccamaster. To make the story short, I found a used one at eBay ( but in black) that I believed was only used for a few days and the coffee basket bracket is broken and the basket is missing. It looks brand-new shiny. So, I purchased the basket and bracket. Once I have all the parts installed I ran a complete test. By the way, I chose to use the manual filter basket and a corresponding bracket. The first test, 1000ml of water, I probed the hot water sprinkle temperature in the filter basket, no filter, and no coffee grinds. Temperature ramps up gradually for a few seconds. It finally went up to 186-196 degrees. It occasionally reached 200 degrees F only when almost finish brewing. So, I was very happy. Technivorm vs Redline MK1: The MK1 is very much better built and seems it will stand more abuse than the Technivorm. The Technivorm must be handled like a surgeon's surgical tool with care and precisions. One wrong move could injure your patient or yourself. The Technivorm's filter basket bracket is poorly designed, flimsy, fragile and expensive to replace. On the MK1, the basket bracket is well reinforced and beefier. The MK1 carafe is thicker and has a much stronger handle. The showerhead more uniformly sprinkles the hot water than the Technivorm. The MK1, the way it boils the water, proudly proclaims higher wattage (power) boiler than the Technivorm. On the (toggle) switches, Technivorm wins. The MK1 is a tactile type switch and too touchy. My wife almost invariably turns it "ON' accidentally when cleaning the counter. The measured actual hot plate temp on the MK1 runs at 196 degrees F. The Technivorm is selectable between 178 or 187 degrees. Neither one, I believe, is temperature regulated. All measured inside the carafe with coffee after 20 minutes on the plates. BTW, I always turn the power off after 20 minutes on both of them. Taste Test: They are both excellent brewers and make the greatest tasting coffee. Search no more, you only have 2 choices at this point in the world. Taste-test is ongoing like the Mueller Investigation. It may take years to come to a conclusion. Carafe: The Technivorm "automatic" carafe's handle is glued on to the glass similar to some Bunn carafes, no metal band clamp. The "manual" carafe's handle is clamped on, but flimsily made and my fingers contact the hot glass and the handle shays toward the glass during usage. The handle could break very easily. Austere on cheap plastic material. Uncomfortable to hold. It may not be "hand made" in the Netherlands as claimed. I'll refuse to speculate any further. MK1's carafe is well made and looks and feels more durable, secure and with chin up. It still could fall if you let go. Durability: The MK1 will definitely outlast Technivorm if they copy Technivorm all the way to its inner guts. But, there is no question about Technivorm's proven quality for several decades. Thus, the 5-year warranty speaks volume. 2-year warranty on the MK1, let's not forget, is quite generous for its price tag of only $109.99. You could buy one every couple of years and still be ahead of the game. Winner: If you read the whole review, you'll know who wins. You and I win.

Very pleased! As good a pourover brewer as I would hope to have.
I have used just about every kind of coffee brewer that is made - drip, espresso, press, vacuum, pourover (manual and brewers). After several months of good experience with a different brand of pour over machine I decided to experiment and get this Redline brewer because it had such good reviews and the descriptions seem so accurate as to what (I, at least thought) a good coffee maker should be. But, you never know till you try something so I ordered it (the summer '18 version) I have to say after the first several uses I'm extremely impressed. This unit has probably the fewest bells and whistles of any of the competing brands. However, the coffee that it has made is as good as I would hope to get anywhere from any kind of machine. No, it won't make bad coffee beans taste good, but it will get the best out of any bean that you try, I believe. Anyone who is into the pour over mode of coffee brewing has already committed to be more in control of the brew and is less interested in all the automatic bells and whistles. For example I do not need to put ground coffee beans in my machine and let it sit all night getting stale just to have it automatically brew the next morning. That's just my preference. So this machine is perfect for me. I don't need anything automatic. I need something that when I use it makes the best coffee I can make. I wake up in the morning looking forward to making that just right cup of coffee to start my day. One of the things that sets this machine above everything else I have tried is the high degree of controllability. It lets me customize my own brew the way that suits my taste, my coffee beans, and my desired outcome of a good cup. My previous pour over brewer had the pre infusion mode and it was pretty useful but never quite did the job that I thought it should; mostly seemed a novelty. So I got where I did not even use it. Having read about the Redline's improved pre infusion mode I decided to start out trying that from the beginning. I can say that it does the job. It exposes the grinds to enough water and long enough to get the maximum bloom. I use it on every brew now and it vastly improves the flavor of my coffee. And, I have not experienced any taste in my coffee that seems like over or under extraction. The one unique and to me really special feature of the redline machine it's what they call the "parking brake" which is simply a valve that controls the outflow of brewed coffee from the brew filter. Some people may not want to risk the consequence of forgetting to use that valve in the correct way, thus getting an overflow, but for me it offers the last important measure of controlability to this brewer, and it seems to really make the difference between a good and a great result. And by the way, the water temperature is perfect in the brewing cycle and the speed of the overall process is plenty good as described by many others in these reviews. Perhaps I will eventually get bored and want something more "automatic" but for now this is the way I want to make my artisan pour over coffee and I appreciate that this machine lets me do everything I want to do to achieve that. Thanks Redline!

Really, really good drip coffee maker
After a lot of research I settled on the Redline MK1 coffee maker to replace a mediocre Cuisinart that we had forever. I drink coffee black and was using a french press and grinding my beans, but when we have company I need to make a full pot of coffee. What was most important to me was the taste of the coffee and the ability to keep it hot without tasting burnt. This makes fresh, hot and most important clean-tasting coffee, especially using the pre-infusion mode. And it's fast. I love it! I haven't used my french press in months. When I first received it I was pleased with how it looked, but concerned about how thin the glass carafe was and how light it felt. It didn't seem sturdy. It's not an issue now, just something I got used to. But I still wish it felt more substantial. Also wish it came in 10 or 12 cup carafe. The biggest con for me is that the lid does not come off the carafe so it's a bit awkward to fill and to clean. Small quibbles when you get a good-tasting cup of coffee. It's a bit more expensive than the big brands you can find everywhere, but there's no comparison with the quality of the coffee it makes. It's well worth it.. Also recommend using paper filters like the ones it comes with, (unbleached) and definitely not metal filter.

Great Coffee Maker!
I'm a long time Bunn user and when our 15 year old model stopped heating I began to search for a better coffee maker, I seriously considered the techvorm but just couldn't justify the cost, so I researched alternatives and I think I found a good one with this redline coffee model! If you want a high tech maker with all the bells and whistles look elsewhere! these are very simple but well thought out machines that simply make great coffee! The likes are : Makes great coffee! the brewing temp stays in the perfect temp zone typically topping out at 205 degrees Its pretty quick! typically taking just 5-6 minutes for a full pot Easy to fill and to clean! the filter holder glides in and out easily and is magnetized to hold in place The parking brake is a very nice feature! especially when your ready to dump the filter and grounds into the trash, its a no mess solution Its not a large machine. tucks into a small counter space nicely! The only things I would like improved would be: The handle on the carafe doesn't fit your hand well The fill tank lid should have a hinge to open and shut making it easier to fill! They should add some stainless to the base! it just looks kinda plain compared to others overall I really like the machine!! its simple and functions great, no regrets on this purchase!!

Great coffee pot, great coffee!
Reading reviews for coffee pots nearly had me run back to Walmart for another Mr. Coffee. Glad I didn’t, but here is a no frills, honest review. 1. This coffee comes out hot and delicious. I am using the same coffee as I did with my Mr. Coffee, but it tastes better because the water is hotter and because the system distributed the water more evenly over the beans, similar to pour over. 2. Fast! It takes less than 3-4 minutes to brew and I have a hot and delicious cup of coffee. 3. It is 6 cups and that’s ok, because if I need more, I can make some quickly. 4. Someone said it is cheap. In my opinion, it looks awesome, and is similar to any other coffee pot I have handled. No, it’s not steel, and yes, you need to be careful washing it...it’s glass and glass breaks if you hit it against something harder. 5. Warning- there is a little switch that can close off the flow of the coffee from the basket into the carafe. If you have it closed and don’t realize it, then the basket will fill up with water and overflow. This has happened to me twice, once because I didn’t know what the lever was, and another time because I was impatient for my coffee, flipped the lever, then forgot to open the lever after I snagged my cup of coffee. This was my fault, not the machines! Ok, so total review- Love this machine and love the coffee it produces!

Not worth it
Couldn’t disagree more with most of these reviews I’m wondering if these people got this coffee pot for free. It does brew great coffee!! BUT only your first cup is hot the warming plate does not work as intended and shuts off within 30 mins. Any cup even after 5 mins of completed brew needs to be microwaved. 20 dollar pots I’ve used in the past keep hot longer that’s why I’ll be returning this product

Makes a fantastic cup of coffee!
Simple and clean design with one button. I have never liked coffee makers with clocks, excessive buttons, and auto set features. This machine brews a perfect hot and strong pot of coffee in less than 5 minutes. I love the pre-infusion setting, which does seem to improve the flavor and strength. The only downside is the pause-and-serve leaver... it seems a bit more kitsch than function. Don't get me wrong, the leaver works fine... if you remember to slide it when you want to pause and serve a cup while it is brewing. No big deal, it brews quick, so it is all good.

The product is only as good as the coustomer service.
The coffee maker made a great cup of coffee. Just as advertised , fast, great taste, less coffee, easy to operate and clean, etc. We purchased it in April 2019(new) and on October2nd 2019 it would not start a brew cycle, hot plate works and that all. The only way to contact Red Line is via email which I did that same day and I have not received a response as of today the4th of October. This is the reason for the 2star rating. So I purchased a different brand(same type) only more expensive in hope of it lasting more than 6 months.
