Surprisingly effective history storytelling
Enjoyed this refresher on U.S. history. Author is a careful, fair, and comprehensive historian. Stamps I've always been fond of. Appreciate them more as little pieces and reminders of history now. Reading this book was easy and putting it down hard.

A great way to learn history
A great way to learn history painlessly. Chris West know his history and his stamps. I got this after reading his History of Britain on 36 Postage Stamps (also a great way to read history). I wish I had had this book in high school - history wouldn't have been so boring. He hits all the high spots and all the low spots and leaves all the boring stuff out. This is also a history of the US Post Office.

Remarkable Books
I have finished two remarkable books by Chris West:[...]"A History of Britain in Thirty-Six Postage Stamps""A History of America in Thirty-Six Postage Stamps"Remarkable because they are concise, interesting and *entertaining*. I never found "history" to be entertaining in school.Although every chapter begins with (and is illustrated by) a postage stamp (Did you know 33 billion (yes, billion) copies of the Penny Lilac, 1881 were issued?), most of the chapters are dedicated to what was going on (in Britain & America & around the world) at the time of issue.

An entertaining overview of history of the U.S.
Excellent overview of American history using key stamps as a guide. Whether or not you are a stamp collector, the book is informative, as well as educational. Had my high school teachers had the author's knack for making history lively and interesting, I might have not waited until retirement to explore our nation's past.

Good Read
This book is so very interesting. It’s not just stamps, they are the main idea here but the history story being told is so very appealing! It has a nice, educated but fun tone and very informative.

Much More Than a Stamp Story
I am currently reading this and am learning many interesting facts from the history of America that I did not know. The author, Chris West, did extensive research for this book, and there is much to enjoy in what he has written beyond the tie-in with postage stamps. I highly recommend it.
