During a kitchen remodel, I had a carpenter add an exterior penetration so I could put in an actual range hood. I had fairly high hopes for the Fotile range hood, but I’m impressed with how well it sucks up smoke. I can braise rack of lamb and sear steaks on the stovetop without smoking up my house. I’ve had some pretty nasty flare-up when deglazing with alcohol, but this thing works like a champ. I like the grease trap tray at the bottom as opposed to the standard mesh screen that gets saturated and gross.Install instructions were good as well. Templating was a bit of a pain and I think they could come up with a better cabinet cut list. It seems like you cut away a bit more than is actually necessary, but it probably does help with clearance when pivoting the range hood into place. You also need spacers to keep the unit from warping when pulled up if your cabinets have a lip underneath. I’d recommend measuring the height of the lip and ordering some at the same time as the hood. I recommend looking up “aluminum spacer 3/4” OD 3/8” ID” at whatever length you need.My one minor disappointment is that I was hoping that the range hood would work like a periscope so I could see what was going on in the pot/pan from across the kitchen, but due to the angles and mounting height, it doesn’t really work as one.

With that said unfortunately the unit we received was defective. When we unboxed it there was some damage to the left side corner as you can see on the photo, likely from the package being dropped in transit causing the metal frame to bulge.Despite this we decided to give it a try anyways since the Fotile service tech was already onsite to install the unit. After the installation was done, we were excited to try out the hood for the first time but it was quickly evident that there is an issue with the mechanical hood flap. It only opened halfway and not the full angle as intended. Fotile sent the service tech back out to fix it, and while it’s better now and extends fully it’s still somewhat loose and the flap does not close smoothly. You can tell the motor struggles to perform the open and close function.According to the Fotile service tech the inside rod responsible for opening the flap is not centered and rubbing against another part on the inside of the unit.

After moving to a new house, we were looking to replace the built-in vent on the microwave that was lacking in power.The power on the Fotile range hood is excellent. For most cooking, I stay on the first 2 out of 3 fan settings. For high smoke activities such as seasoning a wok or searing steak, the 3rd settings is more than enough to suck up all the fumes. The fan speeds are all pretty quiet.I was able to do the installation mostly by myself with a little help when moving the range hood up to the mounting bracket. The process is pretty straightforward, although it can be a little time consuming. Fotile provides a tutorial for the installation which was very helpful. There are also videos on the internet that show installations done in real homes.The only thing I would be aware of is that the color on the silver Fotile vent hood was not that similar to the product image on Amazon. You can see in my picture that the range hood face has more of a baby blue color rather than silver. We were fine with this since it did match our backsplash.At the time of this review, we have been using the range hood for 1 month and have been very happy with it!

This is an edited review. Initially, I was not this unit's biggest fan. It was loud and didn't work as well as my old microwave unit. Then I left a review here about its performance problems. Fotile reached out to me immediately. One of their customer care representatives called me up and even Facetimed with me to try to diagnose the problem. Then he offered to come to my house to take a look in person. Today, two people from Fotile showed up and diagnosed the problem. I'd installed it incorrectly and after they fixed it, it's now an amazing machine. They were polite, friendly and very professional. They also gave me a decorative board to use if and when I want to lower the vent hood a few inches. One of the people from Fotile even showed me some tricks on how to clean and maintain it. The noise is gone, too. It's very quiet and I can't wait to try it out more at dinner. I am very impressed by their responsive and effective customer service!

Honestly I was a little bit disappointed at this product, because there are so many 5 stars reviews and I have a huge expectation on it. But it was not as quite as I expected.first of all, very difficult to install. it is so heavy that it took 3 person to intall it, 2 person lifting it and the 3rd person tighten the screw2nd, it is very noisy, it is same noise as my old 7 sone Boran 300 CFM exhausted hood;3rd, the machine is not designed for easy disassemble to clean and maintenance of the turbine and motors, i dont know how it will look smell like after a couple years use.on the good side, it is much stronger and vent out much more air then my old 300 cfm machine. great looking. fit the black appliances kitchen style very well.

Having been using this beauty more than 3 weeks now. It really sucks ! It's so powerful sometimes I have problem to notice the food is burned.Me and My wife really prefer this sleek look, It matches my black range cooker so well and very easy to clean with the glass surface.It's pricy but it's a very good bang for the buck for me. The family love it.

I bought this Fotile to replace the old fake one. Since the old one had no pipe going out, the air quality indoors was poor. The Fotile fits the old cabinet perfectly and works really quietly. I quoted with a handyman first and he told me it cannot be installed like the picture shows. I didn’t give up and found another handyman who especially installs this kind of machines and it worked. I am so happy that the smell indoors gone. The clock button for delay turn-off is awesome. That function would continue working for extra two minutes after you want to turn it off. And so the smell in the kitchen could be removed mostly.

Make sureyou measure well about the height between range surface and cabinet space, the rangehood is fairly heavy so you need a bit planning before doing self installation. we got a technician recommended by Foltile to do the installation in the end and bought a 6 inch cover piece the bridge the gap betweeb cabinet and range.
