Hot, delicious, and a great bargain !!!
A couple of years ago my mother saw a dish on the Food Network that she wanted to try, but it used "hot paprika", which she had never heard of. We both had regular paprika, and it was a required ingredient in my world champion chili (ok, no actual ribbons or trophies, but I've never tasted better). I "Google'd" it, found that there really was such a thing and yes, it was different from "regular" paprika. Google led me to Amazon, which had several different brands. I tried a couple, and settled on the Szeged brand. It comes in a 5 oz. tin that is about the size of a pack of 100mm cigarettes, only somewhat thicker (iow, it's not one of those little tiny tins that a lot of spices come in).Mom uses it in her soup and some other recipes (she puts it on the egg sandwiches she makes me, and they rock), but I am the biggest user of it. I guess you could say I have a "hot mouth", because I love pretty much all things spicy. My lineup of spices, that I keep close to my place at the table, includes regular black pepper (medium grind, please - mom uses coarse grind in her cooking), ground red pepper, Louisiana hot sauce, habanero sauce (the habanero has the best taste of any pepper, imo, just take it easy), and the Szeged hot paprika. At least one, and usually two, of these go on most of what I eat. I love the hot paprika because, while it is hot, it has a *completely* different flavor from pepper or any of the hot sauces. Although I have my favorite combinations, sometimes I just randomly choose something. The 6-pack of the big Szeged tins costs $22.74 on Amazon. Since I tossed in another item to push my total over $25.00 so I could get free shipping (if you are not taking advantage of free Super Saver Shipping, you are just throwing money away), making my cost per can $3.79, which is a monstrous bargain in the current day of rapidly inflating food prices (esp. when compare to the 14 bucks I had to pay for a single tall round plastic shaker of smoky paprika because mom needed it for yet another Food Network she found - the smoky paprika is actually pretty good despite its painful price). Even if you have to pay shipping, you should still come in under five bucks a can. Last year I ordered the 6-pack for mom for Christmas, and we ran out around Halloween this year (we would have made it if I had not given a can to a friend). I don't suggest the 6-pack if you are just going to use it for normal cooking, a single can should last you 6 months at least. But if you start adding it to your plated food like I do (it is *awesome* in chili and most soups), you will have to order the 6-pack because you will not only be using more of it, but will probably want to give some tins to friends (they make great birthday gifts and stocking stuffers). One caveat: the batch I just got in (I couldn't last till Christmas without it) seems considerably hotter than last year's batch. Whether that is because (a) it got weaker over time, so that the last, and thus the weakest, can is all I remember with my aging memory, or (b) this year's batch of whatever it is you make paprika out if was stronger, I don't know. I'm just saying if you buy some of this (and you should), sprinkle it gingerly the first time and see how you like it. The first egg sandwich mom made me with this new batch had me dashing for the milk with tears running down my cheeks, while mom giggled...she swears she put the same amount as always, and this batch really does seem somehow hotter.Five stars from me !!!!

Hungarian Hot Paprika
Well, I had one can in the 6-can box arrive with the lid off, too, but if you tap the paprika out of the grooves of the plastic cap, a few sneezes later and all is made right. Hungarian hot paprika has fantastic flavor, bearing little relationship to regular (sweet) paprika. It is perfect with chicken and all of the other uses of paprika. Good in chili, especially for those who perfer to replace cumin. Goulash! Good for grilling, with these small cans. This is very rarely available in our grocery stores, and I am glad Amazon carries it. Combined with summer savory and garlic powder, you can ease your transition to a low salt diet, when your age or blood pressure leads you down that path. Worth a try, even if you have a lid event. Besides, the small box, which you can use to store the spare cans, is packed within another far larger box. Great product.

New Form and Flavor - Not Like the Original
Ordered original product depicted, but received different product tins and weight than ordered- 4oz not 5oz; short by 20%.I ordered: Pride of SZEGED Hungarian HOT Paprika 5oz tins (the original version I've used for many years).I received: Pride of SZEGED Hungarian Style Hot Paprika 4oz tins (a new version that differs drastically from the original).

Love it
Found this originally in a small food shop in my travels, it intrigued me so I purchased. Upon trying it when I got home I fell in love. When the bottle was getting low I started searching my local stores, and found nothing. So boom here on Amazon found it, good price, free shipping, and with summer BBQ coming up, not worried about using 6. Gave 1 to my mother in law alas she loves it too!Just a warning though, it truly is spicy and not for those that don't like or can't eat spicy. For you I would suggest smoked papika for a little more flavor over the standard!

The amount of Hot surprised me
This paprika is quite hot; it's hotter than Aleppo pepper. About like Sriracha in hotness? 1 teaspoon in a dish can render it nearly inedible (for me, anyway). The taste is fine, although I wouldn't classify it as a must-have spice. I cook with various and sundry spices and enjoy trying new ones. I use a lot of paprikas, but this batch will last me for many years, since I only am able to use a relatively small amount before getting to my heat limit.

Kitchen staple
I grew up with the standard supermarket paprika, and never knew why it existed - it did nothing for the taste of dishes - I thought it was just decorative. Then this brand appeared on the shelves years ago. IMO, it's like a milder version of cayenne - easier to control the precise effect. I add it to everything possible, even desserts - in small amounts it's unidentifiable, yet adds an extra zip. Haven't been able to find it in stores the past couple years - so pleased to find it again online.

Great product
I order this Hungarian paprika because it is the best in the world. The containers were a bit larger size spice container; however, most of them got opened during shipping. I contacted Amazon, and the response was immediate. I chatted with the customer service person, and she took care of everything, and replaced the entire thing. I am glad that I ordered through Amazon; the security of getting the item without haggling with the merchants is second to none. I am very happy with the product.
