Great Value in a Practice Chanter
This is an excellent practice chanter for the beginner. Nice rosewood, and nice finish. As with all Pakistani chanters, the reed is way out of tune, and I couldn't tune it to the bagpipe scale. The Walsh reeds from my local Scottish shop worked well, without any adjustment, so plan on purchasing one of these right away. I started with one like this 25 years ago and it's still the one I use when practicing with my band members who are using these standard length chanters. Once you learn the basics and decide to get serious, I would recommend the Naill or Gibson long practice chanters, with more accurate hole spacing and countersunk holes which are easier to locate with your fingers.

Get what ya pay for!
It has a cheap feel to it, and my instructer constantly got on me about my fingers not being properly placed, which is due in large part to the holes not being beveled out. You can't feel where the holes are which leads to jacking up a lot of notes. Otherwise it's not bad, it was a fair price. Got what I paid for!

The holes are way too small.
The chanter is nice, wood is colorful. The holes need to be enlarged, suggest 1/4 inch holes about 1/16 deep( counter sink the holes). Don’t redrill the existing holes only the 1/4 holes.Dollar-wise it is a good looking practice chanter. With the one revision ( 1/4” diameter and 1/16” deep) this will be fun to practice.

Needs adjustments
I looks awesome. I think it's to hard to blow, because as I play it I get a headache, not because it sounds weird but just the maintaining the pressure to get the right pitch. I was doing some research and found out most chanters note holes are beveled this one isn't so I found it difficult to replace my fingers in the exact same spot to hold a good note. I know nothing about reeds but this one seems to just squeak all the time unless you find the sweet spot. I have heard that people can just get a new reed and bevele the holes a little and turn it into a good instrument but I'm not sure yet as I dont have any other reeds yet. Overall I would say it's an ok chanter and that if you just wanted to play around and feel cool then it's a good buy but if your serious about learning then you might want to make the adjustments or even buy a higher quality character.

Bought to annoy my sister.
I purchased this the day after my sister complained on FB that her 9 year old was learning the recorder and that the screaching of Hot Cross Buns could'nt get worse: she was wrong and I am now Uncle of the year. Now I have owned thia myself as I like to play instruments: so in addition to the worst gift for a parent ever, it IS a great beginner canter, high build quality and comes with extra reeds, so worth it for the price.

Plays Two Notes
This is a beautiful chanter and I would have kept it were it not for the fact that the only two notes it can play clearly are those of an ambulance siren on its way to aid the dying geese of the other "notes".Some notes do not play at all and others rapidly change octives between dying Canadian goose and dying mallard duck.I was excited for this even if it was only to entertain myself in a soundproof room with my escapism dream of traipsing the Scottish Highlands with a certain Fraiser, but I cannot withstand such torture myself. The only proper use for this would be as sound effects for a Zombie goose movie.

Immediately order a Gibson reed when you buy this pipe. Good value, however
Definitely buy a better reed as soon as you order this. I suggest the Gibson practice chanter reeds. This is a functional practice instrument at a very low price. You can immediately improve it by beveling the holes with a pocket knife. For the $100 you save it is totally worth the minor adjustments you must make to this instrument
