The Medicine Wheel: Earth Astrology
J**L
I met the Authors!
I met Sun Bear and was part of a Medicine Wheel weekend in Peterborough, NH in the early nineties. It was held at a YMCA camp in the middle of a forest abutting a lake. Friday night there was a welcoming at the mess hall. When I waked in Wind Waban asked me what my birthday was and when I told her she turned to the people in the hall and shouted. "Our sturgeon is here!" and every applauded. I was in shock, but Wind Waban said not to worry she would explain everything to me. I was to be part of the Medicine Wheel which was constructed in a ceremony on Saturday afternoon. It was a roped off enclosure with stones set about for the participants. The rope surrounding it had two purposes. To define the wheel and to hang medicine prayers which you wrote on a paper and folded it up in a felt bag and hung it on the rope. The wheel had one opening in the east where we all entered, took our positions and explained what we brought to the wheel. The Otter was wonderful. He came in sliding on his back with his feet and hands waving in the air. Everyone laughed. The last to enter was Great Spirit who was invisible and took the center position of the wheel. The door to the east was closed and the wheel was constructed. There were workshops during the day and a men's and woman's sweat lodge in the evening. During the day we all had time to talk to Sun Bear who was a very open and loving person as was Wind Waban and all the teachers. Sunday afternoon the wheel was deconstructed, a large fire was made with the branches from the sweat lodges and other wood. Hundreds of little prayer bags were thrown into the fire and the smoke carried the prayers up to Great Spirit. Sun Bear closed the retreat giving a warm speech thanking all of us for sharing the weekend with him. I was very sorry to hear of his passing several years later. This book holds his teachings and his love for humanity and the planet. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Great book
Every now and again a book comes along that is really divinely inspired and truly helpful in gaining self knowledge as well as understanding of others. If you like astrology in general, this is a great look at earth astrology, which is a bit different from western astrology but also very similar as well.

They are what looks like terribly photo-copied dark scale paintings
I returned this. The original copy has the authentic illustrations/drawings but this one does not. They are what looks like terribly photo-copied dark scale paintings. The cover is also different. Would recommend getting the older version with the tan color cover on eBay or from a used bookstore.

Shamanism very similar to Paganism
I came to this book with a background in Paganism. I knew there would be some overlap but I was surprised with the similarities. Good read. Lots of wisdom here.

A quick and fun informative book on earth astrology & the medicine wheel
This book is so informative. It combines spirit animal, spirit mineral, color, plant, spiritkeeper, spirit clan, and the medicine wheel. I read this to most all of my family and friends, to inform them on their specific earth astrology and medicine wheel spiritual characteristics.

I had this book years ago and could not find it and ordered it again. It seems after reading it that the information is dated...for todays times.

The book is a great tool to use the Medicine Wheel however
The book is a great tool to use the Medicine Wheel however, the reason why I only give it 3 stars is because I discovered that there are pages missing!! (pp. 107, 108, 137, 138). Now the book that I receive looked brand new and there is no indication that the pages were torn off, they were just not there in the first place and that seems to be some faulty printing. It's a good job that I also have the Kindle version which has it all! But I prefer to have a paper copy because this is not the kind of book which is meant to be read like a novel that you then shelf but a tool for life so the paper format is more practical for this. The edition is therefore a bit disappointing.

Poor Quality Edition
I am in possession of the first edition of this book and am dissapointed to have received such a poor quality new edition which I bought as a present. The cover promises a lot more but once you open it, it doesn't live up to it,- great pity
