Commentaries From the Mind of the Church
I bought the Kindle version of this study Bible. Having also a paper version of the Ignatius Study Bible, New Testament with commentaries by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch, I had high expectations for the Exodus Study Bible. I was not disappointed. The RSV-2nd Catholic Edition text is a translation to love, to study and to use in one's private devotions. The editors provided great commentaries of their own and of the Fathers of the Church. This is one thing I love about the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: you get the benefit not only of modern scholarship but also of the wisdom and learned experience of Christian giants who lived for and shed blood in defense of the faith in times past- the Fathers of the Church, saints and martyrs. One can also look into the Catechism of the Catholic Church articles referenced in the Bible text for further guidance.Navigation is good in my Kindle Touch. But I wasn't so excited about the formatting. The main text of the RSV-2nd CE is smaller than the commentaries. You can increase the size of the main text, but this will also increase the size of the commentaries. Did they make a formatting error here, like they switched the format? Navigating from the commentaries back to the main text sometimes produced two sizes of font on the page: one part the usual smaller font, and the other part as big as the commentaries. (Ignatius please provide an update on this and correct the formatting. You can just use the same size font for main text and commentaries.)Speaking of the Fathers one thing that stood out were the essays on Mosaic Ceremonial Laws: Occasion and Purpose. These alone are worth the price of the study Bible! They are commentaries from some of the Fathers of the Church on the golden calf incident. It's quite a revelation what Saint Justin Martyr, Saint Irenaeus of Lyons, Lactantius, Saint Aphrahat, Saint Athanasius, Saint John Chrysostom, Saint Agustine and Saint Thomas Aquinas had to say. I could not have imagined how they looked at the golden calf incident! There is now for me, a new perspective on the Lord Jesus's words "...my yoke is easy and my burden is light... come to me and I will give you rest..." The essays include two Church Apostolic Constitutions on the golden calf incident. They are no less sharp and incisive. I feel humbled and blessed at these gifts from the mind of the Church.Highly recommended!

Another great volume in the series
I will not go into detail here about the format of the book (see my review of "Genesis" in this series for that). But I do want to point out several items of interest specific to this volume on the book of Exodus. Maps of Moses' flight/return to Egypt and the exodus from Egypt with the subsequent wandering are very helpful. An illustration of the plan of the Tabernacle makes true the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. A chart tying the plagues on Egypt to "the gods of Egypt" (i.e., showing how God is bringing judgment on those "gods") brings an interesting dimension to these episodes. And the two topical essays, on the date of the Exodus and the multiplication of legal laws after the golden-calf incident, are fascinating. In fact, a happy addition relevant to the latter essay is a three page section at the end of the commentary quoting some Church Fathers and Aquinas regarding the matter. I hope the authors will consider including more of the Fathers and Doctors in future volumes as well.I was glad to see six blank pages at the end of the volume for note-taking during Bible study. One very minor quibble: For some reason the cover design was changed a bit from what it was on the "Genesis" volume; still similar but they don't quite match up.As expected, Hahn and Mitch hit another one out of the park with this latest release. A must have for a serious study of Exodus, but valuable to all readers who want to have a better understanding of this exciting and challenging second book of the Pentateuch.

Understanding Exodus
This book was recommended as part of a bible study I am currently taking. I like the larger print and also the footnotes that provide clarification as well as geographical and historical information. It is my first time studying the Bible, this book has helped me discover a new meaning to the Sacred Scriptures.

Great Study Guide
Exodus is the perfect study guide, It has the complete readings of The Bible so you don't have to flip back and for with your own Bible and the explanations. Then organized with Word Study, detailed explanations at the bottom of each page, maps, and at the end of the book each chapter has questions for understanding and for application. It is the best study guide I have ever had. Our Bible instructor had suggested it and I have told everyone else in class to purchase it. The next Bible study will be on Luke and I will purchase that one also.

Great Study Bible! Not great bible study.
Great Study Bible. Not great bible study. I used the Ignatius Study Bible on the book of Genesis. I found the footnotes and word studies informative.I am using the Exodus book as a resource and another study to use to lead a study group.I found it frustrating when it would refer to a note or word study that was contained in a different book without giving its content.
