West Africa has provided the World with some of the greatest World music artists. Senegal and Gambia, their close relationship being both geographical and cultural, have been at the forefront of this virtuosity. This collection of kora griots, mbalax masters and Senegambian superstars includes artists such as Youssou N’Dour, Baaba Maal, Cheikh Lo, Tata Dinding Jobarteh and Ifang Bondi, who are all known and celebrated the World over and continue to perform globally. The musical traditions and heritage of the two closely linked countries remain, while great strides forward have been taken in the development and evolution of their artists’ individual sounds.
