Wrong Translation
They sent me the wrong translation of the book. The amazon site has the Everett translation pictured, and which I wanted, but they sent me some other translation.

Terrible translation
This translation is almost unreadable. I gave up on this version and ordered the version translated by Willetts. Dramatically better, more readable. It's a compelling story, but the translator really matters.

Horrible translation with too many typos
Unfortunately this translation renders the book nearly unreadable. Pronouns are wrong, verb tenses jump around. The more renown translation is fantastic -- I loved the book when I read it in college -- but this is awful. I waited one day too long to return my purchase so I'm stuck with it, but you don't have to be!

Excellent novel!
If you've never read this story, you are missing out. It's about a Russian soldier in WWII who is captured by the Germans, but quickly escapes. The Russians did not believe anyone could escape from the Germans, so anyone who did was sent to the Gulag. In Ivan's case, he was sentenced to 10,000 days hard labor...this novel by acclaimed Russian author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, chronicles one day in Ivan's life while imprisoned by his own people. If you enjoy a good read, this story will make you experience hunger, thirst, happiness, sadness, fear, triumph, failure, pride, shame, and most other human emotions you can think of. That's fairly amazing considering it's only about 200 pages long.I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!Oh, by the way, 10,000 days is roughly 27.4 years!

A slow and boring read in Audible. Just could not suffer it for more than an hour.

Must Read for anybody that thinks life is tough
An amazing portrayal of human triumph. Ivan revelled in good trowel work, not getting beaten, repaying a tobacco debt, drying his foot cloths and scoring a morsel of sausage. How was your day?

Five Stars
A great book. It takes you on the emotional journey of one day in the gulag. Very powerful.

Must buy
This is one of the greatest books of the 20th Century and very easy to read, even though the book deals with an appaling period in history. I wouldn't just say that I'd recommend this, it should be mandatory reading for everyone. It is primarily very enjoyable as it deals with the thoughts & actions of the protaginist rather than being an in-your-face political novel - leaves a lot for the reader to think about rather than forcing the author's opinions on the reader etc.

Terrible book condition
Good story, appalling quality of book condition...now thrown away...not as described. Spine broken, cover creased and damaged, writing in the margins of many pages. Do not wish to own a book in this condition.
