27" RV Battery Lock Box - Aluminum Diamond Plate- Gloss Black

This Trailer Battery LOCK BOX is just perfect. I have been looking for a suitable box for over two years, and have even made one, welding a steel frame and facing it with painted plywood (which turned out to be a poor substitute. But this Battery LOCK BOX is superb in every way. Excellent Design. Extremely well crafted. Very sturdy. Well drained and well ventilated with essential drainage and passive air flow, as needed for safety. Very nice compact size for use with any kind of trailer tongue lift -- whether horizontal or vertical twist, or electric. The BOX has sufficient interior length to house two 13"-long deep-marine 12-volt batteries, placed end to end. Sufficient interior width for same batteries, without crowding to sides. Accommodates one battery strap for each battery, through two 2"-long slits centered under each battery in BOX bottom. Very clever sliding lid that will not scrape the finish on front of the trailer. Nicely lockable with your padlock on the end of lid. Reasonably sturdy and resistant to theft. Strong but light aluminum construction. I will weld two pieces of 1 1/2-inch angle-iron (2-feet and 3- long) on which to mount the BOX across the top of the A-frame tongue of the trailer, and will bolt and bungee cord this BOX to that Angle-Iron bracing. The BOX will remain there permanently, even while I bring the Batteries inside the house to maintain them using a 4-stage AIMS battery charger during these long, cold Minnesota winters. I definitely recommend this LOCK BOX for its great DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, AND VALUE. It is Silver-Aluminum in color, and also comes painted in Powder-Coated Black for $10 more. Either is strikingly attractive.

I measured twice (or more) to make sure that the 27" box would fit on the tongue of my new trailer. It fit perfectly, with the box back against the front of the trailer. Good thing the locking slide top goes to the side instead of up. The walls of the box are very thick; I had to cut my own access holes for the wiring from the trailer/generator. I was very surprised at how thick the walls of this box is; A+ there. Suggestion for Manufacturer - I'd suggest adding more precut hole punch-out's near the middle to upper edges. I'd think 2 on each long side of the box about 2/3 of the height up and at the 1/4 and 3/4 marks on the width axis. This would open up more options for owner/installers to run wiring without cutting more holes. Use a round metal file on any hole to round the edges and prevent wiring from wearing through the protective covering and causing a short in your electrical; the 1 rubber protective ring fits the precut-out holes, not any extra holes cut into the box.Very easy to install with a little attention to detail. Make sure to measure 4 times before buying (the dimensions listed are very accurate) and 4 more times when mounting/drilling holes to anchor it to your battery tray or tongue. It will pay off with a secure box for your batteries, a very neat, tidy, and professional appearance. I have 2 standard size batteries inside and strapped down with J hooks. They're to one side, so I even have room inside for some small tools or battery accessories to be stored without having to go to another box/place to get them (see 2nd Picture).I installed a couple of small round voltmeters and wired them to each battery so I could monitor battery health (3rd Picture). I also installed a 2 prong coupler for my solar panel kit to plug into (4th Picture) so I can stop using alligator clips on the battery terminals when I use them; and no more leaving the battery box open while the solar panels are plugged into it.

I was looking for a high-quality, lightweight, and secure battery box. This one is perfect. A bit expensive, but better looking and less expensive than other options out there. Highly recommended. I ordered the 27" over the 24" to eventually fit the slightly longer Lithium batteries. It is also slightly wider than our existing Campco plastic box, so I will be adding several angle iron bars and setting the new box level with the top of the chassis. It would have been nice if the existing angle irons were spaced further apart, but since the wire bundle runs along the inside of the frame, raising the box clears everything. I also wish there were a few more knockout places on the box, particularly near the top.

This box is well-built and sturdy, and also finally gave me a decent place in which to house a disconnect switch. The way the top of the box attaches and can be locked is good for removing for battery maintenance or just opening enough to toggle the disconnect switch.We had a very tight spot for this box to fit in on our trailer, so before ordering I cut out a cardboard template having the exact length/width dimensions that the manufacturer specified to do a mock-up fitting. I found that it would fit with little room to spare, but I would need to move the towing-vehicle connector cord junction box back on the trailer frame about two inches, and having to move it back any further would be manageable but would slightly complicate matters. The actual box was just as the dimensions were specified, so I was able to make adjustments to the junction box location exactly as I had hoped. The box attaches solidly with the provided fasteners.+1 for those who have mentioned it would be nice to have some other potential holes to use for running cables into the box; I can imagine that the manufacture wouldn't be thrilled about riddling the box with punch-outs, but a few more would be helpful.

This box is very robust. I like the black gloss look. Be sure to measure your bracket to ensure proper fitting. I love the fact I can fit 2 deep marine batteries side by side inside. My trailer, a Forrest River Mini lite 2506S has a short front hitch setup. By placing a lock box behind the propane tanks, it limits access to the lid on typical boxes for batteries. This box slides off, giving great access to my batteries without hittingthe front cab.

Nicely constructed and light aluminum so minimal add to tongue weight. Order fulfilled quickly.Better security than no lock but the aluminum padlock tabs could be pretty easily cut.
