DK Eyewitness Books: Soldier: Discover the World of Soldiers―their Training, Tactics, Vehicles, and Weapons

I bought these books for a second-grade classroom. My son says they all really enjoy the books. Pictures are mostly appropriate for children (see note). I and my 8 year old love it so much it rates 5 stars.Note: there is one picture of a wounded soldier in a medic unit that my son and his classmates thought looked like a dead person. It's not, but it is someone - or maybe a mannequin? - lying on a gurney with two medical personnel next to the bed. Because their school does not allow books with pictures of dead people, my son and his friends raised a ruckus about this and the book was sent home. If your school has the same rules, you might want to point out the picture to the teacher first.

Tells and shows about the soldier in both past and up to today. Also this series of books really are easy to grasp can recommend it.

My 9 year old son likes to read about factual events and he is really into the army. This book is PERFECT for him!

Have ordered these multiple years for gifts, so I was surprised to see when my latest order arrived that the cover has been re-designed and there is no clip art CD-ROM included as before. That's a major bummer! I will notify Amazon that the listing is inaccurate because of the images clearly showing a CD-ROM included. Otherwise the book looks the same. Just disappointing that you don't get as much for your money now.

I do not promote enlisting, needless wars, etc. However I have a grandson who thinks playing Army is GREAT. He has multiple highly graphic video games that teach you to kill people. Being in the Army means you get to kill them legally for real so he LOVES this book.

My 9 year old couldn't wait for this book to be released, and he has not been disappointed! It has introduced him to all kinds of soldiers from different time periods. This book is packed with information and great pictures. The reading level is fairly advanced, so I wouldn't recommend it for many under age 8 or 9.

This book is for someone older. I wanted simpler information. I can't say the book is bad. Its not for a 8 year old.

The six year old I gave this to adored it. The text is a little advanced for him, but the photos and diagrams are a perfect entry point for an Army obsessesed kid. His interest is such that it will be a great reading adventure for him later as well.
