An apple lathe?!
I don't know why I have this. I don't need to process dozens of apples at a time... but it *is* a neat tool. Its fun to watch it do it's thing, and the kids like the slinky apples it produces.I tried it on potatoes, but it had a hard time with all the lumps, and by the time you've done all the steps to use the tool, you would have been done with a traditional peeler. On apples, however, it's beautiful. The peeler skims over the smooth surface while the corer/slicer cuts through the apple with ease and it all works very well. I definitely couldn't do all the same things with an apple nearly as fast or as easily by hand. The tool is solidly constructed and I think it will last a long time, even for people who will use it a lot. The suction cup has excellent grip and wasn't prone to pop off randomly like some others will. The only thing that I've had a problem with is the tab that locks into the spiral on the shaft sometimes slips out, causing the apple to not advance past the peeler/corer. If I hold it down by hand it works OK. I haven't looked at it too hard, it might just need a little tweaking.Overall it's a good tool and it would be very helpful if you had to process a lot of apples. For general household use, it's just another random gadget, but that's fun too!

Sure makes our annual applesauce making easier.
We have a small apple tree in our yard that typically produces more than we can eat. We make applesauce from the surplus. Last year, I resolved never to peel the apples by hand, so this year, I bought this gadget to simplify the task. The only problem I had was getting the peeler to stick to the kitchen counter. I found out that the slightest bit of oily residue was enough to prevent sticking. So, after careful cleaning, I got it ready. In no time at all, I had peeled, cored, and sliced apples simmering in a large pot on the stove. The literature suggests using the device to peel potatoes, which I plan to try the next time I make leek and potato soup.I am very pleased with this economical and simple product.

It does a great job with hard apples
It does a great job with hard apples. With soft varieties like Macintosh, especially less than perfect ones, the blade tends to get stuck, and the apple falls apart. With soft apples or when there is a soft spot, it is easier peeling it with a knife, or by disengaging the peeler blade and using a separate vegetable peeler (T-shaped), which provides less resistance and does not derail the apple. The blades in my unit were on a dull side, and worked better after being sharpened. I also found that the handle which engages the suction, gets in the way of a dish which would be catching the peel and juice. I took it out and reinserted it from the opposite side--what a difference!

Perfectly Engineered - a Delight to Use
I don't usually feel compelled to review products I buy, but this apply slicer was so well designed that I just had to. We have a few apply trees which looked like they'd yield 1-2 bushels of apples. We hadn't sprayed them, so some were good and some not so much. We were dreading the task of peeling, coring and slicing the apples, so ordered this product based on its already good reviews. When it arrived I saw that it was solid, well machined, and painted with green enamel. I was mystified by all the parts at first. The suction base attached firmly to our smooth countertop. So we tried first with a perfect Costco apple. At first I didn't see how the corer would work, so moved the responsible part out of the way. Perfect peel in about 5 seconds. Later I puzzled out how the corer/slicer function worked, so put it back in place, and in the second 5 seconds, the next apple was beautifully peeled, sliced and cored. It was amazing and delightful. And, fun.So my wife and I processed the apples from the trees in 3 batches, each batch about 30 apples. The peeling, slicing, coring was my job and took about 30 minutes, while my wife worked in parallel, cleaning the bad parts, and putting the sliced pieces in the cookpot. If an apple was VERY bad, the machine couldn't get a grip to process it. Otherwise, it performed flawlessly. It turned a tedious job into a fun one. After each run, cleaning the machine was just a matter of holding it under the faucet spray. No effort. We also have a tree of Bosc pears, so will be trying to adapt it for those. The shape will be the challenge. This product is so well made, I found myself thinking it must be German engineered. FWIW. Highest recommendation.

So disappointed
I used to own a Pampered Chef apple corer/peeler and loved it. I was trying to save a little money by purchasing this one, but I'll be returning it. No matter how I adjust the peeler, it disappoints. It either gouges the fruit or peels every other strip. The corer is fine unless the fruit is soft at all; in that case, it gets stuck pretty easily. Also, the ends of the fruit gets sliced very thick and don't get peeled at all. Even when I slice the ends off a bit, I have the same issue. I had high hopes that this would help my baby food-making days be more efficient. It didn't.On a positive note, the suction cup base works great!

Love this app peeler/corer/slicer
I ordered 2 of these, one for me and one for my daughter. Both of us received ithem quickly. Mine had a piece missing so I returned it and got a refund really fast. I got one at a store because I was making a lot of apple recipes over the weekend and didn't want to wait for an exchange. The one I got at the store was not nearly as sturdy as this one. I wish I had this one. My daughter used hers last weekend and loves it. It makes it so much quicker than having to stand there peeling, coring and slicing. I would buy this again.
