Excellent book!
I checked this book out at the Library first and decided it was a must have for home. Steven is well known for his BBQ knowledge and this book is not strictly BBQ. It is a book that encompasses all kinds of cooking techniques and references several other well known Chefs. It is a must have for any cookbook shelf. It is for guys what the Joy of Cooking was for the ladies of the prior decades. True man recipes. It would be an excellent gift for the college guy that is going to have his own place. Great book for a Dad that loves to cook all kinds of things. Well written and I knew within the first 15 minutes of reading through it that I would have to buy it.I am sure that if you love to cook and BBQ as much as I do, that you will welcome this book to your shelf...though it probably won't sit on it very long.

A Great Cooking Primer
I bought this for myself because it was in the bargain bin in a store in my area. I was so impressed with it that I bought a copy for each of my sons when they moved away from home. This book has everything a new cook needs to know and is a great way for a person on their own to get started in the kitchen. It covers everything from what tools you need in the kitchen to how to make drinks for guest. I especially enjoyed the chapter on mixing drinks at home and the tools/supplies you need when you are just starting out. I absolutely love this book and continue to use it today.

Format is not conducive to be easily read...a must for recipes.
The book content is excellent, BUT the way it is printed is crazy! The little tips, etc. with a red background and small white letters is useless! It is difficult to read the book! The letters are too small and the background kind of blends into letters rather that standing out. The format is awful. I am disappointed in this book and I was excited when it came in. I bought the book because it will be used and I could write in it. Great book in need of a publisher that can get the format right. If you have to throw out some recipes to keep the size the same after larger letters...fine!

Poor quality of the book binding.
I liked the recipes, and use some of them over and over. What I didn't like was the quality of the book binding. It came apart within the first year.

A man's cookbook
I saw the author interviewed on TV and decided to get it for my son who loves to cook. Before placing the order, I decided to also get one for my husband and son-in-law--Father's Day was coming up. It is a great cookbook, geared for a guy's use (I paged through all of it). My son really likes it. My husband hasn't had a chance to look at it yet and my son-in-law is getting his copy next week (my daughter hopes he'll do some more cooking :) ). Great down-to-earth recipes, helpful insights, a section describing kitchen utensils and vocabulary, makes this a well-rounded cookbook.

Highly Recommend
Got this book on a special offer through a Steve Raichlen e-mail for $1.99. I have been cooking for quite a few years and am a really good home good with experience in a lot of cuisines. I still was able to pick up some good tips and a lot of recipe variations on the basics. There's a lot of good reading and a lot of flavors to try from this book.

Looks good
Got this for my boyfriend in the hopes of encouraging some hating of cooking responsibility. We haven't made anything yet, but I've read through it and the recipes seem solid and fairly simple. Looking forward to relaxing while some meals from this are made for me!

Not just for men!
This is a good cookbook with more than just recipes. Lots of great basic "how to's" are included. However, this is not a quick and easy cookbook, so be prepared for lots of ingredients in many of the recipes.

A book for beginners not keen cooks
Sent book back as it was damaged. Not problems returning the book and getting a refund.But would have sent it back as it was not what I was expecting.It's very basic and suitable only for virgin cooks! I wanted something for a keen cook.The recipe ingredients are only listed in American cup measurements.Not for me.

Jo, ein Kochbuch für Jungs
Nach einiger Zeit der Abstinenz wieder ein Kochbuch von Steven. Wunderbare Steaks und andere Fleischgerichte, Fisch und anderes leicht zuzubereiten. Amerikanischs BBQ pur.Dieses Mal aber finde ich dass Jamie Purviance es mit seinen Weber Classics etwas besser gemacht hat. Trotzdem gefällt uns dieses Buch.Wir stöbern gern in seinen Büchern und finden oft was zum Nachkochen - Abweichungen inclusive.

Grandios
Das Basiskochbuch für echte Kerle. Viele Empfehlungen für Küchengeräte, schöne Rezepte aus allen Bereichen, vom Grill bis zur Bar wird alles abgedeckt. Raichlen ist sogar über seinen Schatten gesprungen und präsentiert u.a. ein Rezept für Backofen-Rippchen, gewürzt mit Liquid Smoke.Insgesamt ein schöner Schmöker, der für mich auf einer Ebene mit Alton Browns "Gear for your Kitchen" und "I'm just here for the Food" steht. Tolles Buch, super erklärt
Ein fantastisches Buch! Basics wie Equipment, Grundtechniken und Zutatenauswahl am Anfang, dann ein - zugegeben etwas Amerika-lastiger - Rezeptteil mit allem, was das Herz begehrt. Das beste der vielen Kochbücher, die ich besitze!

Over 300 recipes, from appetizers to desserts. Useful tips how to cut, cook meat or variations of meals. Man up and cook! Every man should have this book.
