As a retired software engineer with 40+ years of experience, I’m very critical of the products and apps I use at home. I’ve been using the ULTRALOQ 2025 Upgrade Bolt Fingerprint Matter Smart Lock for less than three months but so far it has exceeded all expectations. I currently have three of these locks installed which replaced existing deadbolt locks and overall the experience has been excellent. Our family uses various Apple iPhones connected to our Thread network via Apple 4K TV device. Communication with the locks has been fast, seamless, and error-free. Fingerprint and PIN features work perfectly. I did encounter a few minor installation issues: (1) Strike plate installation: The provided screws for the strike plate were shorter than those from my old locks. I reused the longer screws from the previous strike plate, which fit perfectly and gave me extra confidence in security. For the other locks, I simply kept the old strike plates with the deeper screws, which worked flawlessly. (2) Door sensor instructions: The instructions and diagram for the door sensor were initially unclear. The diagram referred to the magnet as the 'sensor,' which caused some confusion. After understanding that the magnet is part of the door open/close system and the actual sensor electronics are contained within the smart lock itself, installation on the remaining locks was quick and easy. (3) User access management: For households with multiple locks, each user currently needs to perform the fingerprint learning procedure and define a PIN on each individual lock. With five family members and three locks, this takes extra time. It would be convenient if a user's access information (fingerprint and PIN) could be shared across locks as defined by the account admin, with the option to customize access per lock if desired. In this case the user would only have to do the finger print learning process one time. Despite these minor points, the locks are very well designed, reliable, and easy to use. Customer service has been excellent, responsive, and helpful. Overall, the product quality, software, and support are top-notch. I highly recommend the ULTRALOQ 2025 smart lock to anyone seeking a secure, modern, and easy-to-manage smart lock system.

Overall, I’m very happy with this smart lock, especially because of the customer support experience. Pros: Matter support, which is a big plus if you’re building a modern smart home. Fingerprint reader is fast and reliable once set up. A huge standout feature is the door lock sensor that prevents the lock from engaging when the door is open. This is something many smart locks don’t handle well, and it’s a major advantage over competing products. Solid build quality and good day-to-day performance. Cons: Initial setup can be a bit challenging, especially for less technical users. It’s manageable, but expect to spend some time getting everything configured properly. After about 6 months of use, the unit stopped working. While that was disappointing, what really impressed me was the customer support. I contacted them, and they were prompt, responsive, and very helpful. The lock was replaced quickly under warranty with no hassle, which makes a huge difference and shows the company stands behind their product. Bottom line: Even with the failure, the combination of smart features—especially the door-open safety sensor—and excellent customer support makes this an easy recommendation. Issues can happen with electronics, but how a company handles them matters, and in this case, they handled it perfectly.

*****Update***** After posting my review, I was contacted directly by Ultraloq support. After emailing back and forth a few times I was notified they were sending me a new lock directly at no charge. (I had been refunded via Amazon's return policy, so I wasn't out any expense and was "square with the house"). I received the new lock last week and installed it last weekend. It easily joined up with my Home Assistant Matter/Thread network, and has been operating flawlessly since it was installed. There is no specific HA integration yet, so you can't do "complete management" via HA - things like adding users, and some settings have to be handled via the Uteq app. But, locking, unlocking, battery status and logging activity are there and visible on the dashboard. It also pushed the lock out to my Echo/Alexa devices, where I can use voice control to lock, unlock (with a security code) and check the status of the lock. I have yet to explore the other settings available. I'm going to cautiously raise my rating, based simply on the outstanding support I received. Well above just a simple refund. I promised them I would do a short term update, and follow up with a longer term durability update in a few months, but I'm optimistic as the other Ultraloqs' I have are solid, well made and very reliable. ***Original Review Follows below.*** I bought one of these locks specifically because I am trying to convert all my home automation stuff to Matter. I have an earlier version of this lock with WIFI. Anyway, I am converting over from Hubitat to Home Assistant. I added the Matter dongle to HA, and although it took a few tries to get the first lock to pair with HA, it finally did. The "unlock on return" feature never worked, only errored out saying there was a "communications error". I could live with that, but what happened next was unacceptable. So, I ordered a second one, it joined right up to my HA matter network. A few weeks in, the first lock just suddenly "bricked". Solid green light. Removed batteries, pressed the reset button disconnected the keypad during an hour long phone call with UltraLoq tech support - no joy, Just a steady solid green light. They said return the lock to them and they'd "see if it was a warranty issue". I was still inside my Amazon return window, so I returned it for a replacement. Second lock, a few weeks in, suddenly bricked in the same manner. So, I'm within a few days of my return window so it too is going back for a refund. The 3rd lock (replacement for the first and still in the box) is also going back- 2 out of 3 locks just suddenly bricking up solid (the keys still worked) I'm not taking any more chances. I'll find a different brand. Very disappointed because I like the high security rating and the style. Would NOT recommend and would give negative stars if I could.
