Best unit for the money -> But lacks driver support
I have bought MANY USB to SPDIF converters over the years. Creative, EMU, TASCAM etc.One of my favorites is a TASCAM us144mkii, but it has a problem with chewing up CPU because it's basically ALWAYS streaming even if no sound is coming out. It Streams 0's.So I tried this more modern XMOS based device hoping it would fix it, and it DOES.It actually has an option to be Always On (always streaming) or Power Save (which shuts streaming off when no sound is produced).I suspect some folks that have issues with this unit is because it defaults to this mode. And it can cause a click in the Audio When it Turns on or off. If you have that issue you can force it always on. Which won't have any clicks or pops.Since I use this on a Laptop and Always have it connected but not always doing sound I want it to shutdown automatically (even if I get a click). That's fine. You have choice. But most devices you do not get this choice. Some devices receiving the stream may not like one more or the other, so Try both.ASIO works perfect with Reason 6.5I can also Mix ASIO playback with other Audio Devices. So for example I can play a CD with a Player and use a MIDI KeyBoard to play along with, with low latency (AT THE SAME TIME). Some devices don't allow this (e.g. ASIO4ALL).I'm using it on Windows 8 x64If you need other functions besides SPDIF out, I still highly recommend TASCAM us-144mkii for the price.EDIT: Lowering my review from 5 stars to 3 stars. I have 3 of these and they are very expensive.I have moved to Mac and there is NO SUPPORT for El Capitan OS X. They say on their web siteto send your serial number in and they will send back firmware. But I tried 3 times direct mail and throughwebsite and have had ZERO response. This is unacceptable on such expensive product.EDIT: hifi-heaven helped me get in contact with M2Tech and the problems are resolved. They were responding but the new firmware was going to spam folder. So I have put my review back to 5 stars.

Not the Product Advertised
I ordered this product overnight to replace an Audiophilleo 2 that had to have service 3 times in a little over a year. My DAC has a BNC connection so I was pleased to find a Hiface with a BNC connector for sale at Amazon. So the box arrives today and...this Hiface has an RCA connector, not BNC. In fact the box is clearly labeled as having an RCA connector. Since this is only fulfilled by Amazon the only option is to return it for a refund. Why this item is allowed to be advertised as something it's not is perplexing. Is this the fault of Amazon or Spearit Sound, I don't know. It would be nice to see it corrected.BTW, kudos to Amazon for giving me a full refund, including shipping, before they receive the product. Amazon has always given first rate service and I will continue to buy from them.

Great improvement for HD audio from laptop
Upfront, there have been reviews on the audiophile forums, look there if you want to read more detail. This device is for audiophiles who want to get high definition audio out of their computer to a SPDIF digital input of a sound system. In particular if you use a laptop, you cannot plug in a sound card, so this external device does it using USB port. I am using it as interface to my Nuforce HDP which enables me to listen to sample rates up to 192kHz (the USB supports max 96kHz). Also, this little device has its own clock making it less dependent on the computer busyness. Overall, I do hear a slight sound stage improvement at 96kHz compared to direct USB connection to my HDP.Pros:* All supported sample rates up to 192kHz incl older ones like 176.4kHz (which my HDP does not support with USB)* Much less drop outs and latency problems* Better sound stage* Very small deviceCons:* Still occasional drop outs even at 96kHz despite async USB

This is a gem and a fantastic value for money
This is the second purchase of the same device. I've ordered this right after the first order has arrived and I was taken aback by the ultimate quality of the sound. I have a very good DAC, tube amplifier, and I use Yamaha DVD-S2500 as a transport (and it is very good as a transport, surpassing many that are far more expensive). M2Tech HiffaceTwo was indistinguishable from the Yamaha. It provided a very reach musical experience with very fine details without loosing any of the emotional components of the music. So I can finally get rid of CD and DVD as a media and transfer all my music to the hard drive without compromising the listening experience.

Stops working
On a Mac laptop running Mojave and sometimes audirvana, often it plays for a few seconds then stops working. A search online shows that this is not uncommon. The only way to get it to work is to unplug/replug it, and the fix may or may not work

Eliminated USB noise!
Convert USB to SPDIF for input to a MyTek Brooklyn DAC+ 'Brain dead' installation. Eliminated USB noise. Great alternative to switching USB inputs on the DAC.

Wonderful
Got this to use with my Schiit Bifrost with the coax connection. Instalation was simple and ran without problems. Using ASIO4ALL - J River MC18 - Schiit Bifrost - LD MkIV SE. I'm getting 192/24 without problem. Sound is just excellent. Highly recommended for DAC's without 192/24 USB.

Best USB converter for the money.
Worked just as advertised. I have it hooked up to a Grace M902 via the coax and it sounds great with full res files (24bit/196kHz).
