Sister in law was visiting from Europe. She had destroyed the wheels of her suitcase which was otherwise in great condition. The wheel material gets old and brittle and before you know it you are trying to herd 3 little kids through an airport at night dragging a broken 80lb suitcase. It seemed such a shame to throw a large quality piece of luggage away and we could not let her drag that thing back halfway across the world and several airports. I had to measure the wheel mounts to find the wheels that would fit and drill out the original wheel rivets. But then these bolted right on. She had no trouble getting back and these skate type wheels are much more durable and of higher quality.

These wheels are very nice quality with nice ball bearing inserts. I measured my Samsonite wheels and bought these which were 50 mm. Everything worked out great. It was a bit of a pain to drill out the rivets on the factory wheels, but I got that done. Here is my advice on installing the new wheels: use scotch tape to tape both of the washers in place on the new wheels before sliding them in place and bolting them in. Once you’ve done that, you can easily remove the scotch tape. Not sure how you would get the washers in place otherwise.

I had one wheel that the hub melted out. This was on my large checked bag that I strap my other bag to and trip it back to carry both so there is a lot of weight on the back two wheels. I used two of these there and the other two on the back of my smaller carry on. Front two wheels get way less use and when they do the weight is spread out on all four. These roll so much smoother and with the steel bearings and hub should outlast the luggage. They are very easy to replace you just need a drill and bit to drill out factory rivet rolled axle end. Then you use a hammer and punch or screwdriver to drive out the old axle. They should make all spinners with these from the start, but then you wouldn't have to replace your luggage as often and they would want to charge another $100 dollars or more per bag.

These replacement luggage wheels are better than the original ones. My luggage glides across the floor which makes it easy to get around the airports.
