My trainer loved my choice
My dog trainer asked me to get a light long line to work on important things like recall and transition to off-leash obedience. He was really impressed with the super lightness of this one, and my dog (22 lbs) really does forget he's attached. I've been using it successfully now for about a month. The only reason I'm not giving a 5-star rating is that you could get a rope burn from it if you're not careful. So, as with all of these long lines, be cautious in that regard and you, too, will love this one.

Not off-leash. But free to run. Mostly.
Scent hounds will never come on recall when game is in play at any second. My fox hound-mix gets as close to an off-leash run as she'll ever get with this. Be advised: wear sailing gloves with leather reinforced palms and learn the mechanics of rope handling. When rabbits, squirrel, deer, ducks, etc. take flight, the prey instinct in a high-drive dog that is exceedingly muscular and reactive can cause severe rope whip to face and torso, and burns to fingers or exposed flesh when unspooling and/or tangled around ankles. Only the most-vigilant handler should attempt routine open field exercise such as this with an animal whose genetics and power are worthy of respect. I weigh 205 lbs. and am 6'1" and am athletic and she is a "houndful." Not recommended for someone who doesn't match up to the physicality of the animal. Yes, dogs can play with each other while one is tethered to a long lead but it still requires tending to prevent high-speed entanglements. Always attach to a Freedom Harness (Martingale-type) at the shoulder. Never to a collar or to a leash that attaches at the dog's neck. There is some stretch with this cord that helps reduce shock of sudden jolts. Only wish it had a securing buckle on both ends.

Too heavy to "trick" the dog
Good product, but not the type of thing I thought it was, giving it 2 stars instead of one. This "line" is lighter than a typical leash, but not by much. It is well made and strong for it's size/weight, but I was looking for something to use specifically for recall training that was too light for the dog to notice - which by the title, description, and other reviews I thought for sure that's what this tool was intended to be. My dog tends to freeze up when I put her on a 20-30 foot leash because she notices the weight - and even though with a little conditioning she would move around on it, she still knew it was there, and because of that it recall training on it didn't improve her recall off lead. She's controlled off leash, but not perfect, so I wanted something she had no idea was even attached to grab the second she didn't respond to the "Come" command the first time I said it. To give you an idea of the size of this leash, I expected the metal end to be on the smaller side, to again, keep the dog from noticing it's presence. It's actually full sized, and the radius of the leash is more than half an inch, when I expected it to be a quarter of an inch or less. It is relatively strong and would work great for just a camping/hiking/unfenced yard tool for a dog that isn't reliable of leash, but if you're looking for something to make your dog reliable off leash, I wouldn't buy it, a dog with half a brain will know it's attached to a leash. I'm disappointed that the description of this product doesn't include the radius of the line.

50' Outdoor Line - Great Training Tool
I purchased this item in December 2011. The dogs and I have been using it ever since. It's been through snow, rain, mud and sun; through it all it has remained solid. I use it in my large unfenced back yard with one of the two dogs that sometimes becomes more interested in investigating the animals in the woods than hanging around and playing in the yard. The 50' length gives me the peace of mind to let her be semi-independent, but allows me to catch her with ease if she decided to take off into the woods. The unexpected benefit is that because the rope is 50' long, if she gets into the woods while I've got my back turned, she can't go too far without the rope getting wrapped around several trees.Pros:-Affordable ($24.99)-Lightweight to Give Dog Better Sense of Being Off Leash-High Quality Construction-50' Length Gives Dogs Freedom to Roam While Maintaining Control-Allows Pet Parents to Practice "Come" Command from a Considerable Distance-No Handle or Knot Allows Rope to Run Freely on Ground Without Catching on Everything (A Handle or Knot could be Added Easily by Purchaser)Cons:-50' Length Can Cause Bird's Nest which can be a Pain when Trying to Unravel for Use

Perfect for No-Fenced Backyard
My husband and I can sometimes be lazy - we don't have a fenced in backyard but we have a large 90-lb dog. We've hooked this thing to a tree in our backyard and leave the end of it (that connects to your dog's collar) right inside our back door. Our dog rings a bell to let us know he needs to go out, we clip it onto him, let him out, and he rings a bell to come back inside! So wonderful for those icy cold mornings.I've taken this to the beach with me so he can be "on-leash" and still roam around down to the waves, chase birds, etc. When people come by I just reel him in! Dog-fishing. It's hooked to his harness then. Its been outdoors on that tree for over a year and hasn't frayed or anything yet, either. *Warning* - grabbing it when dog is running can sometimes leave rope burn on your fingers, as it's a slicker, softer rope, so just watch out for that!! Now I step on it to stop him. Still worth every penny.

Good long leash - consider your planned use and understand the negatives
Yes, this is a long line which is good and bad.Positive. - freedom for dog to wander, play ball and have room to runNegative - dog can get a 'head of speed' up chasing a rabbit say, before the line snaps taut. Depending upon the size of your dog this can result in a pulled shoulder for example. This is a thin nylon so it WILL burn if runs along your skin.I'm switching to a flat leash to accommodate my 90lb rabbit chasing dog to avoid more injuries and the need to wear work gloves ymmv
