Easy to use, perhaps a balance control would be nice. I am a long time consumer audio tech, and recommend you try the 6J1/6K4 tubes shipped with the unit. 6AK5's and 5654W are inexpensive to buy, so try them also, and use what sounds best to you. A friend who ghosted for many of the audio magazines was evaluating various types of "name brand audio" speaker wire for a published review. When in his listening studio I asked him what he though was best. He told me to look at what he used, so I checked his studio monitors --- lamp wire from the hardware store. You need to remember you are the consumer and it is your ear equipped head that is doing the listening.

Was dealing with Sibilance issues on my dt990 pro from Beyerdynamic and decided to pick this up to roll off the treble a bit so it wasn't so harsh. The tubes and bit of EQ that it gives you do a great job at warming up and giving you a bit of tuning for your personally preferred sound. Overall it's a nice little pre-amp for the price.

It’s a great little pre-amp that adds that warm sound audio files love to have. I’m so glad to have it for my record player hooked up to my newer receiver.

I've had this preamp for over a year now and have played around w/ swapping tubes and plugging it in to different speaker amplifiers. So far the best combination for me is with 2 matched 1948 Raytheon CK-5654 tubes, paired w/ my Peachtree Nova 300 amplifier. Peachtree amplifier is super clean and powerful and it probably contributed to the performance of this preamplifier. I am happy with my purchase of this preamp and the tube sound is definitely my preference.
